Years ago, while snorkeling at Looe Key off of Bahia Honda SP in Keys, FL a 7-8 foot Bull Shark came cruising by me in 30-40 feet. I wasn’t as frightened as I thought I’d have been because she/he was swimming very passively with the pectoral fins horizontal - not pointed downward. It was an amazing experience that will never forget.

The Oceanic Whitetip is generally considered to be more dangerous than the Bull, Tiger and White Sharks. The reason that Whitetips are not as infamous as the Bull Shark, for example, is because Whitetips tend to stay in deep waters, and Bull Sharks are know to come to shallow waters and rivers, where humans are more likely to swim.

During ancient times the bull sharks use to swim up stream to the Mississippi then the Missouri River. I read a story in early 1900s a fisherman caught a bull shark in his net. They called it fresh water shark at the time, near Chamberlain SD on the Missouri River. Know days no bull sharks can not swim up stream because of the dams humans build.

It's important to realize that during the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, most sailors died of dehydration or exposure and were then eaten by sharks after death. Very few were actually attacked and killed by sharks. Whitetips and Makos make up a very small portion of recorded shark attacks, and although dangerous, don't statistically come even close to Great Whites, Tigersharks, or Bullsharks in terms of overall attack numbers or fatalities.
