Bull rider J.B. Mauney broke his neck on Arctic Assassin, but there’s no hard feelings
Bull rider J.B. Mauney won more money than anyone in rodeo history. Now he's retired after a bull broke his neck, nearly killing him. He talked with WFAA about retirement, his decorated career and what's next for him.

@@BrayanCarmona-kr7vt my uncle was a multi millionaire. He drove an old truck, wore coveralls and lived in a basic house. You can be rich and “un-fancy” they are not mutually exclusive. My comment about being wise has nothing to do with being a bull rider, it has to do with the respecting your rivals or your competitors ( in this case it’s a bull) That bull got the best of him, yet he feeds and cares for that bull like a pet. He doesn’t harbor anger or resentment. That’s the maturity and wisdom I was speaking on.

Rodeo bulls are not violent or aggressive. I was a vet tech for 12 years. We worked on many rodeo bulls. We'd get out to the pasture, call their name, and they'd come running. They would walk right into the shoot, we'd do our thing, give them a treat and release them. They were sweet babies.

Yes, but the act of bull riding is violent. The bull is trying to violently throw the rider. And in this case, violence was done to this rider, by this bull. I’m talking about the nature of their initial interaction vs where they are today.

It's not violent, it's a sport and bulls rightfully so don't know their own strength. I heavily agree and admire him for this but I’d like to point out something and I don’t mean it in a negative way but an introspective kind of way. I immediately thought of the fact that if the bull hadn’t been used for bull riders and or he would’ve chose something else to do for a career then they probably more than likely would have never crossed paths with each other. Meaning his neck wouldn’t have broke. The bull was behaving how bulls are supposed to and the guy was just doing his hobby/job. Neither or them wanted to hurt each other but he ended up getting hurt. If it’s anybody’s fault it’s his or the people who created bull riding but I assume that he knows and understands that already when others would and do just end up blaming the bull unfortunately. Again, I hope this doesn’t come across as hateful.

A bad sport would have been bitter at the animal for the accident that occurred, even though the animal really doesn't have a say in the matter. The cowboy has every choice to participate or not. He was a good sport about everything and chooses not to associate the end of his career as some intentional malice on the animal's part. In my opinion that’s a characteristic of a true man right there. Not because of the incredible bull riding career, but the control over his emotions and the level of respect from “one warrior to another”. No hard feelings, but the accountability and acceptance of what he did knowingly embracing its dangers. I don’t know J as a person, but those are the kind of qualities we need to be teaching our sons
I can really see the affection from the bull. That’s crazy..I know nothing about farm life but the relationship is something else💯
I like how he picks his head up like “ay, you’re not done yet”
Love that he doesn't blame the bull. This man has a big heart

Lmao why would he blame the bull he’s the idoiot who decided to ride it for no reason😂
This Whole Clip.. Just So Magical. The Humbleness , The Love. Perfect
Unbelievable. An understanding.
Boxers are tough. MMA fighters are tough. Soldiers are tough. But bullriders are a brand of tough that doesn’t even make sense.
You can tell the man loves him. This is so sweet
Wow. I am deeply moved by this short. Thank you for posting it.
