Building your FIRST Eurorack Synth

Музыка

Building your first eurorack synth can be an expensive and confusing process, and sometimes its difficult to use different modules together along the way if you don't buy the whole synth at once. In this video we discuss a budget friendly way to build your first eurorack synth and try to find ways to utilize the modules in your music production as you go.

What the heck, this video has super high production value and is really well done. Can't believe it doesn't have a few orders of magnitude more views. Subscribed immediately, keep it up! :)

More ideas for beginners: -Not to expensive case alternatives: Doepfer low cost case (My first case size 2x84hp) Nifty by Cre8audio (Seems like a bargain to me) TipTop Mantis (Ugly but apparently good) Tiptop Happy ending kit (Probably good if you put it in some form of protective case or rack) Arturia Rackbrute (Also ugly but good value) Or better, build your own if you can. -Also buy secondhand and learn how to veld so that you can build modules from kits. Have a look at Befaco to compare kit prices to assembled modules. -Semimodular: If you haven't got any modules at all I recommend that you go for a semimodular synth as you get loads of bang for the bucks. By just adding one effects module, like Clouds, Chronoblob, or function generator (envelopes and LFO's) like Maths or Batumi, or even a multi functional module like the Expert Sleepers - Disting mk3, you get so much more faster and cheaper than buying the parts separately. If you get a Moog Mother 32, Pittsburgh Modular SV-1 or Makenoise 0 Coast secondhand, you can probably sell it/them later, when you get enough modules, for approximately the same price as you bought it/them for. I had two but still got one Mother, + a Dreadbox Nyx. These two also have input for other non modular gear. In fact my Nyx goes so well with a Soma Lab.Lyra 8 that they are getting married this spring. -What you must know about power and connectivity: The power from modular synths is hot and can fry other equipment like pedals and audio interface so you should get an out or inn and out module as said in this video, or an eternal mixer, as most mixers can handle eurorack signals. An external mixer will also probably have a send and return that you can use for effects pedals. My first mixer was a Yamaha MG06X, ok but no send and return. Now I got a Soundcraft EPM 8. Its built like a tank, the sound is good, lets me mix my eurorack with other soundsourses. The EPM8 got two mono or one stereo send and return, and it's also reasonably priced. That said, I'm going to get an inn out module at some point anyway... In this context It's also worth mentioning that there are modules like the ALM S.B.G that let you send signals from your rack to expression inn on pedals and also here make an effects loop. If you got or plan to use "loads" of pedals with your rack you also might consider the INTRFX from www.boredbrainmusic.com/ -Other non eurorack equipment: Get an Arturia Keystep or beatstep. Some synths and sequencers works really well combined with eurorack, like the Elektron Digitakt. -What?: Go to and join Muffwiggler for discussions and advice. If you are not an expert on synths already you might get a bit brighter by watching this series from The New York School of Synthesis: "Intro to Synthesis Part 1 - The Building Blocks of Sound & Synthesis" kzread.info/dash/bejne/k6iq1qR-ZteaaLA.html Details & All Parts: www.matrixsynth.com/2012/01/in...
