I've always loved Tamiya's attention to detail on a scale level. Their bodies are beautiful. The ease of building Tamiya kits are great for beginners to learn how everything works together. I wish more companies offered kits.

I think the hard crux of it is, attention span. Way back when, there were fewer distractions, kids enjoyed the build and painting. It was all a learning process. The rise of RTR just reiterates the fact that for many NOW is what it's all about.
My first RC car was my dad's old 1980 Tamiya Super Champ Buggy with old Futaba servos and a Futaba FP-T-2F Transmitter. It was like a bronze box with a wheel offset to one side and a slider on the side for the throttle. My dad gave it to me as a kid in 1993. I have been hooked on RCs ever since. I still have all of it sitting in the middle of my Motocross and RC trophy shelf. It all still works. I'm going to pass it down to my kid for his first RC car. Then buy him something he can destroy because I want him to be able to pass it down to his kid one day. I will never forget the day I got it. I was so happy and my dad was scared I was going to break it lol
I do love the TAMIYA Escort MK2 body that you chose for this car Greg. As a middle-aged man, it brought back some fantastic memories of owning a Ford Escort Mexico MK2. Keep up the excellent work Greg 👍🏻

I love Tamiya. That little car rocks. I still remember my first Tamiya Clod Buster.

Cloudbusters are still cool! I have the originals and the new Super Clodbuster in Grey. They are even much more fun now with modern upgrades.
That looks like a lot of FUN! Amazing work on the body Greg! I love vintage rally cars and this simple Escort looks great! I really like how Tamiya makes all types of rc machines. At least their peculiar view on them, obviously and thankfully. 😁 I to dislike body posts, I went with a magnet system in my CC02 Tamiya.
looks and performs like a lot of fun!
My first rc car was a Tamiya grasshopper that a friend and I bought from a hobbie store that was pre-owned. Great upload. Thanks for sharing.
Looks amazing!

Agreed, good stuff from Tamiya!
This looks awesome 👍 Tamiyas are always a blast to build and drive. Unfortunately, it's not easy to show that in a video for all the RTR people. As usual, a great video RC Driver 🙂

Well put and thanks!
I think this kit looks awesome. I’ve been thinking about getting a Tamiya rally car for a little while now and this might be the one! Thanks!
A professional rc driver; nice video!
I’m a fan of Tamiya rally cars.
That sucker was ripping on that 2s battery!!!
Make Rally Great Again!!!
Body looks great 👍
Glad to see Allen head screws
I like tamiya rc car very much.
Chassis looks great, needs softer springs.
Great review.
Very cool car and nice Footage😊🎉🤙🏼
The body looks amazing.
Very nice kit, and I love the Escort body you put on it! Looks epically scale and realistic.
Here’s maybe an unseen aspect of Tamiya Japan. I lived in Japan for 25 years. I have or still own Tamiya, Kyosho, Yokomo and HPI rc vehicles. I had a contact that could call the Tamiya manufacturer and request any parts tree I needed. The only condition was that I had the wait for until they were in between larger production projects. Usually, my wait time was estimated to be 6 weeks, but I often got called after 3-4 weeks that my part ready to be picked up at a certain store. Further, they never overcharged me. As I bought used cars that were broken and out of production Tamiya was exceedingly willing to help me because they were happy to help keep their cars on or off the road.
Cool car!👍🔥👌
I watched the close up shots between 6:45-6:52 and it looked rally! Full speed it appears bouncy and chattery but some rocks out there are big in scale

If it has softer suspension at the back of would look better. Mk2's squat at the back under hard acceleration
Wow, looks to handle well and real agile. Corners well it seems. I'd like to see a 10.5t in it and see how that goes. I may have to invest in one of these
looks great
As much as i appreciate this chassis , i own xv01 and a hpi wr8 and a rally car 1/10 scale is already a challenge to drive in any terrain without scratching the body or keep losing traction cause of the small stones . A 1/8 scale rally car is what one should opt for a decent rally experience on every terrain. This small thing is for no reason a premium product, in such a small car a slipper clutch or a central diff may not be such a game changer, also the price is astonishing high, in germany costs 295 euros (and considering what u put in it the brushless combo, servo etc bring the price to around 400 euros, 400 euros!!!!!!!!! The xv01 costs 189, the xv02 rs 239! A fiesta st rally traxxas cost 369!!!! This thing is stupid. If u want a rally car, fast, brushless and rtr get a mjx 14301/2/3 or a pinecone udiirc!!!
Ford Escort is RWD, never was 4wd in this version. Use the M08 concept chassis for a true version- tarmac spec.
Tamiya products are fun , affordable and look great. They are not bashers or speed vehicles. They are just simply fun kits aimed at people who like to build scale models and rc. The price point is low so whats the big deal. I have a DT02 on 2s that flies . The gears in the diff are bulletproof and the plastics,well dont hit anything and you will be fine. Just toys but enjoyable and fun to build. Im interested in the 1/14 rigs lately.
Very cool, I can't decide which body to choose! Even the MJX rally bodies should fit!
very cool, and the Kyosho FZ02-R is a top rally chassis also. Good choices out there! :)
Cool video. One thing thar strunck me on XM, is how similar are uprigths to M07/8. I wounder if they are interchangeable? Some observations: 3:45 - putting 40T in front and 39T in rear will actually underdrive the front - it will turn slower 4:10 - oh, great, after getting CVDs right on M-07/8, they got in wrong on a car where it matters the most..
Please review the mjx hyper go rally d3- it's awesome 👍
Ide be tempted to spray that internal cover white actually 👌
I am a sucker for inner fender wells.
Any idea how the ground clearance is compared to the MF01X chassis?
Awesome video as always. I love this kit, but the price tag just seems a little steep, doesn't it? Amazing platform, and great review!
My first rc was ALSO The Falcon. I built it and raced it at the local track. I remember greasing wheel bushings before the main race. 😅
@rcdriver
2 ай бұрын
Oh yeah! I rocked the nylon bushings my first year of racing. We ran every weekend and they lasted the year. Funny seeing get so wound up over bushings nowadays. 😆
Haha I got a old hotshot 2 somewhere might have to dig it out
I thought if you put in the center differential it counteracts having ring gears with different numbers of teeth?
I want one of these but 1/4 scale size,rear drive only,zakspeed spec ,that will be up there for me.
It's the closet to a real classic escort I'll ever get..😅
I'm looking forward to this. I like that front bias setup idea too. It's the same Slipper as the XV-02 (22048) I read, is the correct?
Are the body posts in the same place on the XM-01 as they are in the MF-01 (or whichever kit it was the Escort shell originally appeared on)?
👍🏾💯
Any idea when we can order these? I already have an extra body, I need this Escort parked next to my XV-02 Cosworth!
You gonna do a vid on the new losi 8ight xe rtr? I'm waiting for a review before I get one 😅

I love to rally my Tamiya but the damage it takes it’s a little much. Still good to have a rally car though you can just “bash” around.
Any traxxas content coming? Would love to see your take on the updated sledge and maxx slash!!!

@@rcdriver Thanks Greg, rock on!!!!
Thanks for the review Greg, the one thing I didn’t hear, what does it cost? I’m in Australia where the Aussie dollar is like 65 cents U. S. it makes rc very expensive. Again Greg, great review, thanks mate. 🤓

$238USD. I always put price in the video description. I tend to not mention price in the videos much. 2 reasons. Because I often get cars before the release the price isn’t finalized until sometimes after I made the video. The other is if the price changes viewers get mad at me if I say something different in the video. By putting it in the description I can easily change it.

Thanks Greg, the car looks great and it’s definitely worth the $320 + dollars to get it, thanks mate.
👍👍😎😎
its like a little xv-02, which is confusing cuz xv01 totally different so shouldnt that be an xm-02 by their own standard?
it's a shame it's 4wd by the time fitted electronics ,paint and all the other bits like foam for tyres be better off buying the 1/8th audi quattro by carisma for instance and have a car that isnt a shelf queen
Another high end performance company should just design chassis that fit these beautiful Tamiya bodies!! No bodies or licensing needed!!
@Papinak2
2 ай бұрын
There are many chassis like that. Xpress AM1, for example.
Should of hit the jump everyone wanted to see it.
No foam inserts on a "pro" kit lol what a joke
you CANNOT do away with body posts on a touring car that you race. magnets/velcro do NOT work for a racing chassis - basher/shelf queen/drifter, sure use magnets. but cannot use anything but body posts for a onroad racer
@rcdriver

There’s other secure options than magnets and velcro.
I can’t build so I’m out.
They´re calling this thing pro? Looks very average to me...
@Papinak2

PRO in Tamiya language means mid range model that is not barebones and comes without body. You can check older TB-04 chassis which came as Pro, non-pro and R variants to see the difference. Tamiya phased out many non-pro midrange kits since then, only ones currently in production being TC-01 and TD-2/4 A non-pro variant would probably come with plastic shocks, dogbones instead of CVDs, and steel or plastic parts instead of blue aluminium bits. Even that would be leaps ahead of MB-01 or MF-01, which is their cheapest offering in the category.
With all honesty, their chassis are joke from box, fragile plastics makes them a shelf queen, nothing else. How are we supposed tonreact if there is no foams fore tires? XV-01 is still better despite front weight becaise of motor.

I kinda agree. Tamiya kits are good for nostalgia factor and looks but… definitely not on par with the big 3 hobby grade companies in terms of drivability and durability

I have a few tamiya kits, the tt01 and tl01, (both old!), and 2 newer kits, tt02 993 Porsche, and the mf01 bettle. 20 years in between, but all 4 look like they were built the same day. Tamiya- you're long overdue for modernization!
@Competitionx

I'm going to have to disagree here. Yes, SOME of Tamiya's cars are more play than performance, but not this one. This car has the 'Pro' status, meaning better plastics, bearings and other upgrade parts - their top-of-the-line oil-filled shocks, for one. We also thought the foamless tires were going to be junk but, in all honesty, they actually worked really good in our Rally-course test runs. We ran them multiple times and actually set a course record. Now, we agree that the little tires do limit optional tread patterns and compounds, but hopefully SOMEONE will come out with option tires. Finally, the XV-01. We never got ours to be great - just ok. Our XV-02 is WAY better. Having the motor in the middle balances the car more for competition-level events. Just our opinion.
