Building the world's BIGGEST hay barn?

We have broke ground on the biggest barn yet! Today the crew is utilizing a borrow pit to build the pad up for the GIANT 300 x 180 hay barn we are hoping to have built before 2nd cutting!

Thank you for covering the build of this ...can I even call it a hayshed?!!! That dryer is very interesting! Have you started haying yet? Here in Central Minnesota the hay is ready but can't get more than 2 days of dry weather. At least our ground is still ok unlike some farmers not far from us. If we were still milking cows we would be cutting and baling the next day for balage. But we just sell the hay now! Looking forward to your videos! Love watching them all!! Good luck this summer!!

I have been around baled hay for over 70 years. In addition to dairies, feed stores, feed lots and horse ranches, we now have compress facilities loading containers for export here in the Imperial Valley. Forget the weather as your primary concern. How you build and plan to suppress and rebuild after fire is your biggest short term and long term challenge.

Fire would be terrible. Fortunately this is not our only barn

@@FarmingInsider To manage and reduce loss due to fire, three, 2,000 ton barns instead of one, 6,000 ton barn would help.

I think that’s a plan when we can focus on it. We had the division of soil and water come out to help us make a good plan

The usual strategy is multiple somewhat smaller hay storage barns as an insurance measure against a total loss should spontaneous combustion or a direct lightning strike start a fire . It happens and they burn for days .

@@FarmingInsider I don’t think I’ve seen the video on last year barn but did you put an auger pit in? I’m thinking that would be the key to less waste and cleaner.
