I remember having this case as my first PC that my parents bought in 2000 if I'm not mistaken, it came with a Pentium !!! (Yes, pentium 3 was !!! Back in those days), 64MB of RAM and a Quantum 40GB HDD, all running Windows Me, it also came with those old speakers that had like arms with velcro to tape them on the sides of the monitor, I can't remember the model. I started my love for pcs with that case, now I'm a 27yo systems engineer and this video almost made me cry 😭❤ Thank you very much! I really enjoyed this video! 🤩

This is essentially what I did for my gaming PC. I bought a Dell Optiplex 990 through my university's surplus program, then added an SSD for the OS and upgraded to (currently) 12GB RAM. Once I find employment again, it's getting a new power supply, graphics card, and possibly an i7.

Is it just me or does this system look like there was way more room to improve? The video looks rushed and just seems to have a lower production quality than usual? I like Austins content, this one just didnt do it for me

Not just you. Everybody is thinking it. This video was so damn lazy and totaly rushed, I was thinkin the whole video he could have at the very least cleaned that case... also i'd had 3d printed some front covers, or at least get a dummy floppy drive and another cd rom to cover those holes. Then he just slapped an op system in there with zero customization... Totaly effortless.

@@josejuanandrade4439 It wasn't the dirty case with no front panel covers that got me, I like the look of a beat up sleeper. It was that He called it the Ultimate Sleeper build, an ITX motherboard? No SLI? No water cooling? No overclocking? Hell he cant even close the case side panel because it didn't have any case fans. There was nothing ultimate about this PC, its a upper end gaming system with below average build quality. What bothered me was the kind of fake excitement act he seemed to put on for this video? I get he had a day, but the video felt like a placeholder, just to get some kind of content out for the day, with no care to quality

I'm gonna be honest this video was a bit of a let down. You kept saying it was the "Ultimate Sleeper PC" but nothing really felt "Ultimate". Sure the hardware was pretty good but there was nothing really there to make it overkill like water cooling or other such case mods that are completely unnecessary but add to the overkill aesthetic that you mentioned

*This is probably a dumb question but I'm new to PC gaming and have watched a few of the same kind of videos. When you are building your computer and its time to test the games, how do you already have them on your PC? Or do you just edit the video and not show yourself waiting a hour or 2 to transfer the games to that specific computer?? Lol*

i don't think "sleeper" pc means, put nice stuff in a dirty ass case... clean that thing up. add proper cooling , fill the front case slots with another cd rom and some floppy drives even if they are just for looks. What you have done here is FAR from "ultimate" and more like half-assed.

@@saphrone4071 Yes, but to say that he was inspired or stole from Linus isn't exactly true. In the years of watching most of these tech channels I've always noticed a trend of them all pretty much doing the exact same material, and all within a span of within 3 months. For example, Lewis from Unbox Therapy will do a video on a product, then anywhere between an hour or so all the way up to a month or two later I'll a see another video by either Austin, Judner at UrAverageConsumer, David Lee or even Marques about the exact same thing. So no, Austin isn't exactly stealing from or inspired by Linus. Hell, if anything they all steal from each other. It's just a matter of who puts up their video first.

I finally rebuilt my main rig in my old 2001 Cooler Master ATC 200 and I love it! Everytime I reach over to turn my pc on, it brings a smile to my face to see that old retro prosumer lookin' desktop case.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me about the world of PCs, the ATX standard has held for so long, and it's *relatively* easy to make such a build :D

Just need to find a few components to fill those front bays since you don't have the covers. Pop in a floppy drive or 2 and a fan controller and another CD rom. just fill in the blanks, but the fan controller would be the only thing you could really use.

@@verndelap I can see what your saying and yeah cooling should be a priority. I had an old Cooler Master Centurion 534 and I took 2 of the drive bay covers out and modded the covers for ventilation by adding mesh screens. Then used a piece of cardboard I traced out a 140mm fan cutout and mounted it in place so I could pull more air in. That left me with a 140mm (slightly restricted air flow) and a 120mm in front pulling in and the back had the 120mm and the PSU fan plus the video card pushing air out. Temps were good in there when I installed my ASUS P67 Sabertooth w/ i7 2600 and GTX 480.

OMG I had that case, back in the day. I cut a hole on the side pannel and put a 120m fan with a fan guard. I think I had a Athlon 64 x2 in mine.

I had that exact case with a 1Ghz Celeron in it back around 2000 - 2001 :) I eventually upgraded it to a Pentium III 1.4Ghz Tualatin processor. So that motherboard looks like my old one too . . . now that I think of it I think that looks like the re-writable CD drive that I had too. Is this seriously my old PC?? I doubt you'll ever see this Austin but can you check if that motherboard had a Pentium III 1.4Ghz Tualatin processor in it?

i love the concept of sleeper pc but in simpler and even older style case

yep... not ultimate in any sense. Just lots of $$$ thrown in an old case that has panels missing. That might give it away... effort in this video seems like 3/10.

what's more ultimate sleeper... grungy and missing bits or a pristine old case? Which one would you guess has the best gear inside?

It needs more stickers, but I'm liking the open style bay approach, especially on the front - "Yeah, I'm gonna put something in there... Eventually." 😂😂😂 Floppy would be nice touch too 💾

i did one, removed the old cd player and straped a fan in the open bays. (it is hot in here) a 212 evo as coler is a good idea too.

I like how it takes like 30 minutes for him to get the stuff meanwhile all of us take a long time

I like my sleeper E-Machines computer. It was a C2D, then a 4th gen i5. Upgrading to 10th gen i5 this week.

Oh, wow, isn't it amazing that the old case doesn't affect the FPS! *end sarcasm mode* I like the concept but it needs to be done right, no self-respecting retro PC enthusiast would ever behave like that or build the system like that and they would never leave it all filthy! Also, buying hugely expensive parts and hoping they will fit the case that you don't have yet - duh. And that mainboard looks so silly in that size case. And having the CD/DVD drive working would be essential, not having an adapter ready is laziness or poor planning and research.

This video was rushed, and lazy, he did not even clean the system, or even cover up the open spots on the front panel, and he could of had the CD drive working with an adapter, or got a DVD-RW for next to nothing, and a can of Krylon spray paint, some cheap sand paper in a few minutes time has a matching drive. This was nothing but a lazy rushed video to get some quick cash from Intel.

I used to have that case. I painted it all black, had a hole cut in the side, used acrylic to fill the side. used a cathoid light in it as well. I think I had a AMD K62 if I recall. Played a lot of Counter Strike and Half Life with mods on it.

@@CaveyMoth The point of a sleeper is to look old from the outside only tho. You can also obviously tell it's a sleeper with that 2080 Ti. I mean Austin literally put an i7 sticker on the outside which kinda ruined it all.

Man reminds me alot of my current PC, except the Ultimate and Gaming part.

He should get like a crazy water cooled pc with a old components.

Definitely want this so that my small cousins and nephews wouldn't be able to go like "BRO U GOT A NICE RIG THERE LET ME PLAY SOME STUFF AND WASTE UR TIME AND MAYBE EVEN DOWNLOAD VIRUSES AND BREAK IT"

man, you know cars this is where the term "sleeper" arrives. sleepers are usually highly-tuned everyday grocery getter's. They look like your average stock (car with no mods) car on the outside, however when it reaches it comes to racing it's usually a perfect car that smokes everything. The term "smoke" here is to go 10x faster than it
