Just to mention Luke , you should screw the countertop to the two pedestals . There's going to be a lot of weight on it , and it may sag downwards . By putting 4 screws from inside the pedestals upwards into the top, it will keep the top a lot straighter . Although , now that i see the finished product , you may not need to screw the top . But if it was screwed , you could slide it around a lot easier .

I like a dual monitor setup, but can't stand having the split between the two directly in front of me. I moved to having one monitor straight ahead with the second off to the side in portrait mode. I feel like a single ultrawide would be a better solution, but they are expensive for a 2160p model.

Or you can have two stacked 49”ultra wides. That gives you a lot of screen real estate.

You really might want to raise the speakers. Having the tweeters at ear height would be ideal. Given the width of the two monitors there'll be no way to get them closer to each other. For optimum stereo reproduction you and the two speakers should be at the three corners of an equilateral triangle. With the current set-up there will probably be an acoustic 'hole' in the centre. Using a kitchen counter top is always a good idea. I've had mine for well over ten years now, spent many hours in front of it, and it still looks great.

Agreed on both points. Better still would not to have speakers in boxes but to cut holes through the wall and mount concentric drivers flush. The neighbours may not be too happy though.

I did the same thing for my desk upgrade. I ended up building a hutch for it using two Ikea bookshelves and some black veneer 5/8" melamine panels for backing to add a tv to. Still need to build out the overhead lighting, doing that with some xmas cash.

Nice. When I was working from home in computer biz I had an dining room table that wasn't be use and I used it. It was perfect because dining room table are very deep compared to regular desks. It was about the same width as your desk so lots of space. Then I had one set of drawers like your using. What I like about the dining room table is how deep it was so I could keep the monitor back and have lots of deskspace for keyboards and other things. Last dining room tables can be easily found from new to used at a big variety of prices.

Awesome video Luke! I’ve really been wanting to see your maxed-out Mac Pro video Also I just want to say I really like your choice of background music, in basically all your vids. Especially the second one here, Way of The Walk by Dusty Decks, is my all-time favorite background music to use when I’m editing family movies in iMovie. I’ve probably overused it by now but I love it! I think you and I have very similar music tastes. 😁

The other part is the Alex drawer sets, available in black, white, and the turquoise-green shown in the video. I also opted for the turquoise-green. The Alex drawers are pretty nice.

I built a similar desk back in 1979. I used standard office file cabinets though, so Pendaflex size on the left and 2 desk drawers on the right and one Pendaflex-size. I still use this today. The setup supports my full weight so I can sit or stand on it or put a hundred points of stuff on it. Doing the speakers is tricky with monitors. Sometimes the wire from one speaker to the other is on the short side so it can be difficult to put it on the sides of 2 monitors. I have 4 27 inch monitors on my primary desk so I just have my speakers on 1 monitor.

Thank you, for posting this new desk set-up video inside of your new Los Angeles apartment. Also, you forgot to mention for people living outside of Southern California that, today it is sunny and 70 degrees. Wow, two (2)- 4K monitors that are 32-inch each is really a lot of screen space. Since, I prefer to have only one monitor would just buy Apple's 32-inch 6K XDR display. Also, to make your desktop complete you have to add an Apple "space gray" track pad just as, I have done to the left of your keyboard (smile...smile).

For a monitor I use the LG OLED 42" C2 television as a monitor. Works beautifully. It's the perfect compromise of size of display and viewing angle distance. I don't like the Ultra-wide monitors because they compromise on pixel height and cause everything to feel "smashed" vertically. Buthaving a 4k display that CAN run 5k like the LG42" is a big but NOT TOO BIG Oled. It's great. I use it both for my 2009 Mac Pro setup, that still runs great - THANK YOU btw for your video on the 4,1 & 5,1... and I use it for my 2023 M2 Max Macbook Pro.

Did you try running each monitor at native 4K resolution at 3840x2160? If yes, was the text and other items too small? Certainly, if pixel doubling was used with effective display resolution of 1920x1080 as specified in the display setup in MacOS, the text would appear way too large.

Only thing is maybe having elevation legs so you can also use it while standing up but you do have other spaces you could move to if it is to stale to sit in that office chair. Those legs might also take too much space so you don't have space for those drawers under the desk and it might make cabling a nightmare because of the extra length needed.
