    The reason cars are cleaner is simply the EURO emission norm. Bikes didn't have to comply until the 2000's and only in 2008 was the EURO4 norm enforced. Cars have always been two norms ahead of bikes. The reasoning was they're more fuel efficient so cleaner, until it turned to be wrong. EURO specifically limits all the gasses on top of the obvious CO2 reduction. Those norms are the main reason big cities are not as smogged up anymore, unless it is somewhere those standards aren't enforced.

    The reason bikes are dirtier in the USA is due to lax pollution regulations for motorcycles as compared to cars. US regulation is also way behind the EU specs. Simple as that. Not to mention all the modifications such as tossing the CAT, getting rid of constricting muffler and standard air box/filter, and reprogramming the ECU for more HP/Torque, that many if not most owners do to their bikes to chase higher performance. I'm not aware of any states that require motos to pass post sale emissions testing like they do for cars either.

  • @Yvolve

    @@JBean_COCR Not entirely true, as the US is currently sticking to the EURO norm as that is a massive market. Realistically, there is only one American motorcycle brand: Harley Davidson. Indian is owned by Polaris, which is American, but all their bikes were designed by SwissAuto, for worldwide sale. For bikes, that is now EURO4, where cars need to be EURO6. All the mods are outside of any manufacturers influence. Both on cars and bikes. Almost no country in the world has an MOT for bikes, but that is changing.

    I find it strange that they didn't mention Catalytic converters in the emissions myth. Discarding fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions what they tested for was basically the existence and efficiency of Catalytic converters. Instead of making the Bike slightly more fuel efficient they could have just added a good Catalytic converter to the Bike (which is mandatory in Cars) and it would have won easily.

    Fun fact: "RPG" does not actually stand for "rocket-propelled grenade." That is merely the English/American label attached to them. That said, the RPG line of Soviet/Russian-made weapons that the label became synonymous with - particularly the RPG-7, which is by far the most iconic of the line - is named with words whose initials are "RPG." However, those words are Russian words, which semi-roughly translate as "shoulder-mounted anti-tank weapon."

    Smaller engines generally use less gasoline, but they also tend to burn worse. That's why car manufacturers have started to downsize their engines to increase fuel efficiency on the one hand, and have used all sorts of tricks to make the engines burn better or clean the exhaust gases better on the other. However, there is a third factor: power. Of course, these tricks must not ultimately make the engine too weak. This is the reason, for example, why today's petrol engines are direct injection engines and no longer have carburetors. Direct injection makes it possible to get more power out of a small engine. The disadvantage is that the fuel no longer burns cleanly and a particulate filter is required. Also, a motorcycle simply does not have that much space, i.e. it is difficult to install various filters, exhaust gas purifiers, catalytic converters, etc. here.

    You're wrong though as most car manufacturers have gone in the opposite direction with bigger engines at lower RPM. One effect of this is that cars can more easily stall because the cylinders are very heavy and the fuel is only just enough to move them. If you don't have enough fuel when the clutch releases the inertia of the car can overpower the engine. Most modern cars have computer controlled fuel injection so that doesn't happen but if you have a car from the early 2010's you will know you often have to give them a lot of gas when driving off from a dead stop. You notice fuel efficient engines a lot in the noise they make with a much lower and slower rumble in contrast to the high pitch sound of more fuel hungry engines.

  • @xcoder1122

    @xcoder1122

    @@MrMarinus18"with bigger engines"? No idea what you are talking about. The whole industry is downsizing motors for almost two decades now. Today plenty of cars come with 3 cylinders engine, that all used to have 4 in the past. Also gas motors today use direct injection instead of classic carburetors, because this allows smaller cylinders with less displacement. Just open the hood of any car produced the last ten year and compare the motor size to a car produced over two decades ago. The motor is always smaller. You may not have noticed that, as you may have moved to bigger cars like SUV or a pickup trucks, but if you take the same car class today and 20 years ago, the motor has always shrunk and also in pick up trucks the motors used to be bigger 20 years ago. Today you often get a 4 cylinder when it used to be a 6 cylinder in the past. And 8 cylinder cars don't even exist anymore as standard everyday cars, which was still a thing 40 years ago.

    They made a huge mistake: about 2 of the 3 cars are equipped with a fuel injection which heavily reduces the emissions of hydrocarbons, and the bikes are equipped with carburetors which everybody knows have been forbidden on cars because of their habit to let more fuel passing through the exhaust. Electronic fuel injections (Which equip all modern cars since the early 90's) are equipped with sensors in the exhaust to measure hydrocarbons an monoxide emission and to tell the engine's ECU to enrich or to lean up the fuel mixture. Put electronic injection on bikes and they won't produce monoxide or unburned hydrocarbons etc...

    Yes but most bikes from the nineties and even the 2000s were all carbureted because it was simple and easy to maintain fuel injection didn't start being such a mainstream thing in bikes till about 2008-2010

    There are many varieties of RPG-7 compatible grenades. The most common one (the one in the video), colloquially called "the carrot", is a HEAT grenade with 400mm (15¾") armor penetration. It easily rips open armored vehicles and can even punch through modern tanks' side and rear armor. As is shown in the video, besides being able to penetrate very thick armor, it also produces a generally violent explosion that will instantly kill or grievously injure anyone close-by. A much older version of the same grenade only had 260mm (10") of penetration, but not for the want of high explosive content, just early technology. And a newer version (of 1977) has 600mm (23½") of penetration, though it's twice as heavy. A less common type is HE frag grenade, called "the pencil" because it looks like one, produces a much weaker explosion but much more of lethal flak in all directions. A regular HEAT grenade will pretty much do the same job while also being able to defeat armor, the downside being much greater grenade weight and size, hence the anti-personnel grenades are not used very often even against personnel; also it came out in 1999. A bit earlier anti-personnel grenade uses thermobaric explosives and is even less common. A modernized anti-tank grenade has a tandem HEAT warhead, one regular and one tiny at the front, you probably seen these as HAMAS has been using ones almost exclusively in Gaza. The front warhead mainly just triggers target's anti-rocket protection, making it a waste, and the follow-up main charge punches through unprotected metal, but if there was nothing to trigger then it adds a small amount of penetration too.

    The RPG-7 is kind of unique as it's not strictly a RPG, it's a hybrid between a RPG and a recoilless rifle. It's essentially a recoilless rifle that fires RPG rounds. This is part of why it's so successful since it can take a very wide variety of projectiles, not just RPG's.

    RPG Rockets are manufactured by a wide range of suppliers, and so the quality and inclusion of safety devices varies. Some are armed by acceleration, some by second stage activation, some by spinning. It's likely that insurgents only have access to the cheaper rockets, likely with poor safety features and build quality.

    A teardrop is the most aerodynamic "simple" shape. With a drag coefficient of 0.04. Short of using advanced computer simulations, it's about as best you could hope for in a fairly improvised setting. In reality the shape has to be compromised for many reasons, the worst reason is aesthetics, but there is also the need to provide space for components, and give the vehicle operators room, not to mention other aerodynamic effects. Things change under supersonic flow though, and more wedge like shapes can have better characteristics.
