Building the ScottoFrog Handwired Gaming Macropad

Ғылым және технология

Roughly 6 months ago I was commissioned to build something similar to the discontinued Frogpad. The board is called the "ScottoFrog" and can be a Bluetooth wireless single-handed keyboard or gaming macropad. I printed the keycaps and case using the "Fuzzy Skin" setting which makes the board look like concrete.

Now if only I could figure out how to print switches 🤔

if it doesn't tear itself apart after a few strokes I'd be drowning in switches

There are some designs out there. I would probably try incorporating them into the plate.

it would be really cool if someone use galvanoplasty (Electrotyping) with 3D printable parts, not only for some cosplay props, but for some technical applications:) i mean that something like 3D printed springs is already exists, so why not to try make conductive parts of switch to combine all together and try to get some experimental full diy switches? maybe it would be intresting challange... what if in the future we will have like openscad files with all params and able to print switches and make parts conductive and play with this a bit if someone had a time machine please tell us how is it going in the future!

You came along at the perfect time! I just started putting together a list of components for a cyberdeck build and a frogpad was on the list. So happy that I can get one without dealing with my terrible circuit design skills.

This is great! I've got all the components for a handwired board, now I just need to actually start assembling. Your videos have been super helpful for pointers and ideas.

I've been intrigued for years with the frog pad along with other one handed keyboards. I'm looking forward to getting the 3d printed components from your store and building it myself.

Oh man, yeah platemount stabs on 3DP plate is such a PITA. Never been able to get mine tuned right. I usually use a tiny file to correct the fitment but I still find it impossible to get them up to the standard of pcb mount stabs. Cool project man! I love the little diode twisting jig, will definitely need to make one of those myself!

Do you have the STL for this coiler on your github? I found the file for a different one but didn't understand how to use that one. I love your content and I'm currently about to start wiring my first 3x3 macropad following your guide!

This largely misses the point of the original, a pocket sized portable device. They were even good on an arm band.

I also have wireless firmware available for it that exactly mimics the original layout of the Frogpad. I just don’t have a use for that so I made it into a gaming pad.

@@joe_scotto That's cool, I'm just pointing out the original was a very different thing. It was terrible in some ways too, but membrane switches allowed it to be thin, modal input allowed for "decent" one handed use and it's primary application was mobile industrial or administrative tasks like working in a warehouse, construction, military, etc. Think PipBoy (there are actual products like that).
