Building the modular “Pop Up” cabin

The first part of putting up the modular “Pop Up” cabin. I managed to get the floor and exterior of the cabin finished. Next will be the front door and roof! Really looking forward to it’s completion and using it over the fall and winter!

    Love thise notches. You know if you nail on side a vertical frame with two more slats spaced random boards over middle, you could chain saw inside the frame for your door and itwould also fall out in one piece. Just add hinges. If you decude ti make ut nire permanent, you could clad inside walls with insulated foam board, a few 4x8' pieces of 2 or 4" us all you would need... same way for tiny roof, osb showing from inside, foam on top and any self-stick butyl overlayment will waterproof it and is easy install.

    I had no idea that you could make a log cabin with boards! 🤯 Thanks!

    Nice project, I see these popping up all over Utube now, no pun intended, but each has its differences in construction methods which makes all the vids interesting....One fella used splines in between the 2x10's, seemed like a lot of work but its definitely air tight....Thanks for the vid.

    Thank you for the comment and tuning in! Yes the basic idea of the "pop up cabin" is the same, but different ideas make each unique. I like the idea of it being able to take it apart and change locations if needed/wanted.

    Surprised that you didn’t anchor the modular structure to the floor base, but maybe that comes later. Looking good!

    Oh, those beams (not pressure treated) are sitting on raw ground and/or blocks of wood? Why not concrete block, or chunks of stone say? Worry is, rot. 1/4" hardware cloth nailed to bottom of frame, between frame and foundation beams, to keep critters out.

    lots of gaps, how do you intend on dealing with that? Wouldn't it be better to make your notching a little more accurate?

    @@TheBushkateer Good to know. I was looking at either doing a 12x12 or a 15x10. Good to see yours and the space in a 12x12.

    I notice that you used particle board for the floor with out a vapor barrier . This is probably going to give you some trouble .Particle board is known for not being very durable and swelling up and disintegrating when exposed to any moisture .At the very least , i would paint both sides with a water resistant paint .

    Good point and thanks for the input. I will have to come up with a solution for that, paint seems the easiest at this point. Will have to think on that. Thank you for the comment and tuning in!

    Boy did I notice and worry about that particle board. After you oil paint it--though the edges are crucial to any type of waterproofing and you may not be able to seal those now--i would get some self-adhesive underlayment like on a roof and put that down inside, about 6" up the wall first, then whatever floor you decide on, vinyl tile. Ceramic or boards, will work without consequence

    How did you cut the ends to interlock them?

  • @TheBushkateer

    @TheBushkateer

    3 жыл бұрын

    deltafour1212 I just cut a notch in the 2X10 that is half the width of the board ( so about 5 inches) and made that notch about 1.75 inches so it would fit over the lower 2X10. I then fastened a 1X4 to the end of the 2X10 the prevent the 2X10’s from sliding off the ends, that locked them in pretty good.
