Building the Hasegawa 1/72 F-14A Tomcat High Visibility Full Scale Model Build
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hello everyone and thanks for watching my video! In this video I will build the Hasegawa 1/72 F-14A High Visibility Tomcat. This is an older kit (tooled in 1977) with raised panel lines. It goes together very well and I had a lot of fun building this kit. It was nice to have something cool to build when I was locked up with Covid for a couple of weeks! You get two different squadron markings with the kit: VF-84 "Jolly Rogers" and VF-111 "Sundowners." I opted for the Sundowners. The kit comes with four Phoenix missiles, two Sidewinders, and two Sparrow missiles. There are also two crew figures. The decals are nicely printed and react well with setting solution. I mostly used Vallejo Model Air paints on this model. I did a bit of weathering with Flory clay-based washes. I hope you enjoy the video. Please leave comments and check out some of my other model videos. Take care! Drew

Wow, Drew, that turned out really nice. I'm with you on the raised panel lines... sometimes they look better, in my opinion. The finish is awesome. Well done, amigo!

Thank you, Brett! There are some areas where I could have done better. I may even buy another one (this one was gifted to me) to hone in on some skill improvement. They are very inexpensive and looks the part. Take care! Drew

Thank you, Cap! Could have done a little better in some areas but it looks cool….from a few feet away!! Take care!
A great build! 👍Too bad about the canopy fit, but better leave it as it is than screw it up in a refitting attempt. Hope you're feeling much better, covid is 👎

It would have been super easy to fix before painting had I paid a little bit more attention! Covid was like a bad cold for me. Almost feeling back to normal. Take care!
Love a Tomcat build, but picking-up on what you mentioned, the fit of the front canopy & leading edges where the canards fold away maybe need a little more work. But hey, when I had Covid, I hid in my shed and built a kit (badly) aswell !!! All the best from NZ.

Thanks Ian! I may get another one to hone in on some skills. It’s a really inexpensive kit and looks really good. Are the canards those little ‘tabs’ that come out of the leading edges? What do they do? Take care!

@@DrewsModels - The fold-away canards were to ease the airflow during very high supersonic speeds - turned-out they made virtually no difference to the F-14's performance so by the middle of the second production run the operating mechanism was deleted. I think the space was taken-up by the ECM gear but I could be wrong.
Always a pleasure to watch your work. You have an easy style that I like.
