Building The 22' Terra Ekodome Frame

Ғылым және технология

Can a single person build a hurricane-proof 22 ft diameter living space in 7 hours? How about he does it with bare hands, no tools?
Watch this!
Preinstallation of a 22ft dome frame with bare hands, no tools!
This experiment has been conducted to prove how easy to install Ekodome dome frames even under poor conditions.
It took 7 hours in total for the designer to install the frame. As a result, the video has been sped up to 2500% in some parts. An inexperienced team of 3 using an appropriate ladder or a Man Lift would take around four hours.
Do not try this alone.
Geodesic Dome Specs:
Brand: EKODOME
Frequency: 3V
Model: TERRA
Diameter: 22.14 ft / 6.75 m
Height: 13.15 ft / 4 m
Floor Area: 366 sq ft / 34 sq m
Kit includes:
Aluminum extruded struts and strut caps.
Aluminum casting hubs and hub caps
TPE SEBS and EPDM seals on profiles and hubs
Delta Seal coated steel bolts and nuts
How to cover the TERRA frame: Any solid panel between 4mm -10mm can be installed on the frame straightforwardly. See the video below:
🎬HOW TO COVER A GEODESIC DOME?
Did you know you can cover Ekodome Dome Frames with any solid panel within thickness tolerances? This allows you to build multipurpose geodesic dome spaces by changing the cover material and thickness.

Hi Mark, We will install Stellar and Cosmos as well. Unfortunately, we won't have time to cover all of the frames and add the second floor. We are busy with packaging. The loft area is also something our customers will customize, and the options are also endless.

Slightly larger would add height, and setting it on a wall panel section would add height. Still, some losses to angles to height makes unusable spaces, except for odd storage or insulation. I would go for insulation...

So what is supposed to make this hurricane proof? What materials would cover it and how would it anchor to the ground? Looks like a giant hurricane frisbee to me

Hi Arlyn, You can cover the frame with any solid material. The hub system, struts, and all metal caps give it ultimate strength. Cover panels add up the strength. Please check Ekodome.com for more details.

So, obvious question: why not start with the top panel and lift the structure as you build? Use a sissor lift? They have outriggers for leveling.

  • @Ekodome

    @Ekodome

    2 жыл бұрын

Hi Sam. That is something we tried before. It is very convenient, especially when you build higher frames like STELLAR and COSMOS. TERRA doesn't need that. The critical thing while lifting the frame is to hang the dome from the hubs at the edges once you add each row not to bend/strain the structure.

Why do people keep calling them hurricane resistant? A hurricane would obviously demolish it just as easy as a wooden house. Only concrete buildings can survive strong hurricane/tornado forces.

@@Ekodome I absolutely love the frame design of these domes, and the idea of it being used to create a complete structure like a dwelling with different kinds of materials as panels. Has a livable structure actually been built this way yet? Currently it seems that is still just in the realm of ideas though, because I imagine if you had built a structure with panels already you would have at least taken a photo right?

But hey, facts have never stopped collectivists before, why stop now? Muh OSHAAAAAAAA!
