Building stages quickly in a Kestrel!
So, after the last PRS match I did I realized that I was wasting a lot of time manually changing the target distances in my Kestrel. I had tried to pre load the target distances for the 2nd match, but when I got to the range and went to send the data to my Kestrel, the sector was showing me a blank screen! I thought it deleted all the info and I just decided to go back to manually changing each target distance. Well, I figured out that the data was still there, I just needed to hit one more button in the app!!
To do this in the Kestrel app:
Open the Kestrel LiNK Ballistics app
Hit the Target Card button
Hit the Sectors button
From there you can name a lot of "Sectors" which I'm using as each stage
With the Sector highlighted with a check mark, hit the back arrow
Then "Edit Targets"
Enter target distance and direction if wanted
If done, hit "Back" and it will save
You can then build another sector by going back to the Sector page
Or, from the Edit Target screen, you can send that target info to the Kestrel
It will overwrite any data on those target cards in the Kestrel
Then you just need to confirm target direction and get your wind speed and direction, then your data will be ready to go!!
It appears that each sector can contain up to 10 targets, and on the Elite like I'm using it can have 30 sectors saved! This should be enough for me to keep my home range, the Freedom Farm, and each stage at the 3 ranges these local PRS matches are held at. I'm looking forward to trying this process in a few weeks at the December match and saving myself a lot of time between stages. It should give me a few minutes to catch my breath and relax a little as I set up for the next stage. Instead of rushing and not calming down any between stages.
If you have any questions, let me know and I'll do my best to answer. I'm still learning this stuff and hoping that this will help some other new people learn to use the Kestrel. I was doing things right, but I thought I was losing all the data. Found out that I just needed to go a little further into the options and my data was there waiting for me! If you have any other good tips for the Kestrel, I'm open to hearing them!! I need to learn as much as I can.

New info!!-- It appears this is only on the Android app currently. I will update when the Apple version is released. My friend said this feature is not on his version, but when it is I will find out and update this info again!! Happy Thanksgiving!! This is coming out on Thanksgiving Day 2023. I figured out what I was doing wrong. I just needed to hit a few more buttons in the app, and all my information was there. In this video I show how to build sectors and send them to the Kestrel. This should save me a good bit of time between stages at future matches. That's a cool piece of gear! Way beyond my needs as a plinker/hunter though, haha. I do have a similar, lower grade model for use out on the water when boating. You're really moving along fast in this hobby, that's good to see.

Thank you, Mike! It is a pretty amazing little tool. Not needed for most applications, especially hunting, but for what I am getting into, it does make life better. Saves time and gives good data for getting hits!! I am trying to stumble my way thru this and learn as much as I possibly can. Always looking to improve. Will be looking at setting up some more practice things at my range this weekend so I keep sharpening these skills. We had our Thanksgiving in early October! I like that because there is a bigger break until Christmas! In Canada it's Turkey just like in the US but not as big of a celebration. Just a good day off in the Fall!! Thanks Chad. Mike.@@ChadKelly7

@HobbiesHobo That is great. Spread the holidays out a little more. I knew there was something similar for Canadians, but I could not remember it last night when I was typing. It's always a good time to relax a little and spend time with family though, so any reason to get together is a good one!!

I think it will! Even if the change the targets at each match, the stage names will probably be the same or similar. But after tinkering with it to make this video, I am quick enough building it all that I can run thru and build the whole match before the first stage starts! That will be great for taking a breath between stages and not feeling so rushed. Appreciate you stopping by to watch, Walter!! Have a great last week of November!!!

I have not tried that. I can dig into it when I get a chance and see if that is possible. Do you mean like, I input the data and send to my Kestrel, then also send that data from my phone to a 2nd person's Kestrel? Or share from phone to phone? I am getting better at using this, but still nowhere near good enough yet!! I am still learning all I can about it and the best way to use it. I will need to make another video soon about some other things I have learned. Mainly, don't have it close to your rifle chassis, magnets phone, other electronics. That can affect the numbers it spits out!! Messes with the compass I think. Let me know which direction you want to try and share the data, and I will look into it and figure out if there is a way! @hughtanner208 I took a look at the settings, I'm not seeing anything that should not let it be saved to a playlist. I know on some videos I watch, I have to hit the little "more options" 3 dots to save to a specific playlist. And on others the save button is across the main menu. Might check that. Not sure why some videos have save across the top and some in another mini menu. I will take another look at home this evening, but it should not be locked or restricted from saving/sharing.

I got it figured out!! The real test will come in about 2 weeks when I try this process at the next match. Should work out well. Now, I gotta spend time this weekend working some of the skills I need to improve! Going to try and make a tire structure practice area!! Always working towards getting better! That's it!! I like scan tho, like using binos, if I'm wobbly I hold to scan. Guess that just stuck in my head more. I will probably forget it's called capture and keep saying scan 🤣 Can't believe I thought all the stuff was lost, but it was just hiding until I hit edit. I have all 3 ranges built with the stages on the paper. Should get me close for most of it, maybe small adjustments on the day. Eager to try it out! Happy Thanksgiving!!
