Building Reaper's New Greaves

Фильм және анимация

I recently created new greaves for my Reaper cosplay when the paint on the originals started to crack. I saved the patterns, cleaned them up and put them into a pdf document to share.
I made this video to show the building process, it is compiled from my Twitch stream, so the video quality suffers in some places. I also sometimes drift out of camera shot, but I hope it is enough to follow.

    This is super helpful on helping to create reaper. Intent to build him for C2E2. I do have a question tho if you can answer it. What type of bonding glue do you use that sticks that quickly? I want to get similar for working since the general stuff isn't all that great I have used and very slow to cure.

  • @Kagatoamv

    @Kagatoamv

    5 жыл бұрын

    I used Barge Contact Cement, for Contact Cement, you apply the glue to both sides, let it dry to tacky, then press them together, that is what causes them to set so quickly. The downside is you can't adjust it if you mess up. The Evil Ted Smith channel has a demo video on how to use Contact Cement for foam seams.

    Great vid! Thanks again. I'm still pretty new to the whole "working with EVA foam" club, but I noticed the notes said to cut bevels into some of the shapes for the plans you provided. Did you have to cut them at a certain angle ?

  • @raxatechlabs2000

    @raxatechlabs2000

    5 жыл бұрын

    In the plans, you will see an orange line for uppercut bevels, red for undercut bevels and green for rounded edges. A symbol with the angle will show near the line which indicates the exact angle. For all of these cuts, the angle appears to be 45°.

    Nic - I'm planning on using your templates (SO generously shared - thankee BIG BIG, Sai), but I am making them for my 13 year old nephew who is 'maybe' 5' 8" and of a lanky build. (Nowhere NEAR adult yet). Are your templates designed for adults? If so, if I reduced them to 80%, do you think that may be enough to keep near to symmetry? Appreciate your talent and kindness, and plan to follow your example when I'm in THAT kind of position! Long days and pleasant nights!

    I'm 6'2", so they're scaled for me. You can try scaling them by the percent difference in height, then do a rough build with just the pattern, tape the edges together and see how the main part looks on his leg.

  • @Kagatoamv

    @Kagatoamv

    You might be limited on budget and what materials you can work with. But I would advise you check out Bill Doran's Punished Props YT channel and Evil Ted Smith's YT, both have a great collection of beginner videos and templates for good starter projects. For Reaper, instead of trying for a highly accurate costume as your first project, look at the main ideas that make his look; for instance make a mask and combine that with a black hoodie, do a nerf gun repaint for his shotguns, stuff like that. You can also look at the Gabriel Rayes versions of his skins, which have more regular clothes options.

    What size EVA foam did you use?

  • @Kagatoamv

    @Kagatoamv

    7 жыл бұрын

    A mixture of 1/2" and 1/4" EVA foam (should be noted in the document), and you could easily use 4-6mm and 10-12mm. Ideally you want most of the structure made from a thicker foam and detailing done in thinner.
