As a veteran of many farmstead builds, both planned and on-the-fly, please heed this little nugget of advice: Everything can be fixed, repurposed, retrofitted, or upcycled later. Worst case scenario is that you learn what doesn’t work for you at a particular moment. That is a lesson well worth the effort. Nothing will be perfect the first time. It’s like that first pancake. The ones after it will be fine. Luckily you don’t need perfect, just good enough. Never let “perfect” stop you from attaining “good enough”. Be wary of having roofs shed water upgrade. You don’t want runoff getting inside the building, right? If you add siding, be sure you attach it with the idea of animals pushing against it. In other words, don’t make it easy for an animal to push or kick it out to bust through. Happy Thanksgiving!

Good points, especially the one about direction of slooping the roof for keeping the rain from flowing in the shelter on the way back downhill. I kind of wondered about the way he was talking about it since the floor appears to be dug out. That appears it make just Act like a catch basin for the water. I would think you might want a slight slope to the floor to have moisture flow out of the shelter.

Don’t forget a hay rack inside on the wall. If they are stuck inside all day because of bad weather you can fill it with hay and they can munch to their hearts desire. 🙂

Hey Kyle, I have a suggestion for that shed you want to build up by the camper.... Watch Chad's video for his lean-to and then add pallet floors. It only has to be a shelter for tools. Not livestock. No measurements required (unless you need to fill in the cracks of the pallet floors, but I suggest getting an outdoor carpet to cover the pallets in case you drop a screwdriver or something). You can have it built in a day.

You two are doing a magnificent job on the building. What we learned with our new property was to walk the property after a good rain to see where the water flows. We found out quickly that you can figure out how you want to fix any problems with drainage. Remember that the land will drain a certain way and it's best to check it out. Don't worry about what others think do whatever makes you happy! Love watching the change to your property. Hubby and I have been married 21 years and I learned that he often tried over the years to perfect everything he does. I chalk it up to his job that he worked before retirement. He always asks for my input, and gets frustrated when I say "it's whatever you think!" Glad to see that you both are giving each other your ideas on how you are each doing your part of this build. Keep the great content coming! Much Love from our family to your family 💞

love the framing so far kids!! Just one bit of advice, since you built on a slope, BEFORE you put on the siding BACKFILL the dirt that you removed at the start. If you don't, come the next hard rain your goat shed will be an enclosed pond. When you backfill use your tamper and pack the heck out of that dirt. Then to finish, build a BERM around the outside to keep runoff from flooding the inside.

Time together, as a young married couple, is never time wasted. Building this goat shack together is a learning experience, so enjoy! Just remember "analysis paralysis" adds too much time and stress. Push forward, power through!! As for your dirt floor decision, I may not have gone that route, but, that's just me. Just ensure you don't have run-off issues with water draining from property grade run off, ending up with canals through your dirt floor, down stream. No pun intended. Keep on keeping on Brother and Sister! Godspeed.

Remember that Mario is becoming quite the escape artists. You might want to build a double gate entry/exit for yourselves. If he pushes past the interior gate as you come in, the exterior gate is already closed and will stop him. He has done this trick to "Grandpa" a couple of times now and thinks it's a great way to get some extra grain. It will be much harder to catch him there. They also will climb up and over all kinds of things to get out. A tree or low branch, roof of a building, a fence they pushed sideways, garbage can, feed barrel etc. Once they learn how, they never forget and keep trying to do it again.

You know what Kyle doors on the outside would be fabulous and to be able to close it up more in winter and open it up in the summer especially since you have very cold winters and VERY hot summers.

The shelter looks great. I have built a lot of structures for animals without a square or level and they all stood through hurricanes, winter storms and goats.

What Gary does is hang a fan in their in the summer months, that is a idea. The structure itself looks real good 👍hopefully gets done real soon because your poor dad is having a problem with all those goats 🐐😉. We all can't wait to get your goats home, are you going to get more goat's eventually.

That is a Class A goat shed! Much nicer than what we built. Your shed and pump house will be amazing! Happy Thanksgiving to y'all.

When I first saw that you had placed the goat palace outside the fence, I thought,"Wow! What a great idea!. Cool way to save space inside the fence." And when you add the hinged windows wall coverings for summer it will be easier to do, and easier to use. God bless and Happy Thanksgiving!

I look forward to seeing how the dirt floor works out hen you have to clean them! For what it's worth, a solid wood floor with linoleum seems easier to clean and sanitize.
