Building our 1st Greenhouse! || Greenhouse Gardening || DIY Greenhouse Build!

#greenhouse #diygreenhouse #HomeFreeAlaska
Without a doubt one of our best farm projects yet! I dreamed of having a beautiful greenhouse in the farm garden...and just like that, Joe made it happen!
Ok...maybe not JUST like that! It took us a couple of months from start to finish...I couldn't believe that we actually got it done in time for this years garden, but we did.
There is a never-ending to do list on the farm and a lot of the "fun" projects usually take a back seat to fixing fences and other projects that must be done for the animals. So I was super excited that we made this a priority and together, with a lil help from the kiddos, we successfully built our homestead greenhouse from the ground up!!!
Joe is his own worst critic...all he ever sees is the flaws and what he could have done better. Funny thing is...I think he's crazy! His work is amazing...EVERY time!
I'm fascinated by the way he works...the way he learns as he goes and flies by the seat of his pants with every project! But in the end, they're always a masterpiece! He may not say much, but I think he is so talented & I feel like one lucky girl that he's mine! Besides, I talk enough for both of us! ;)
Join me today as we take a step back in time, a step back into the chilly winter months when we first started the greenhouse foundation and then we'll fast forward to the greenhouse today!
There's still so many things we want to do, so many ideas of how we could improve it, but for now..we want to celebrate where we are right now!

I just came across your Channel and was looking for some ideas for a greenhouse. You folks have done an excellent job not only building it, and filling it with some very healthy looking plants. By the way, in the future if you make any more buildings that you are going to put stain on, you may want to stain all of the wood prior to assembling. This way all sides of it will be done. I pray that you will have a blessed day today and everyday.

I would have done things different but what works for you - works for you, 1 question: Why not grow in what you call the floor area? You paid for the space you might as well use it! Unless this is a starter (seedling) greenhouse I would have made it bigger, I like the shelving and bench idea but I think I would have made it about 18 x 120 having about having 10 - 12 feet to plant every week so it would be ready to harvest every 90 days adding a wood stove or outdoor furnace allows growing year round. Just suggestions as I am looking at feeding myself not just a summer venture. overall good job. Being in Canada I prob would have used 2x6 on the exterior walls and 2x10 for the roof.

Thanks, i have a follow up question. I am gonna build a similar greenhouse this or next summer. Is it allowing enough sun to get in? i mean wouldent clear transparent glass or polycarbonate "glass" be better for the plants inside?

@@HomeFreeAlaska OK. Q: did you have to cut the plastic in someway? And with that tool? Please please pease show me. And is that plastic hail resistant? Cause i was looking smtg like that and what i found isnt. So I am worry that I would work two weeks (or months in my case 🤷‍♀️) and one hail will destroy everything.

The rafter keys are far too deep - there is not enough meat left, so they could snap off over time. Apart from that, the rest is good job.

We don’t get snow where we lived in VA, where this was built so there’s nothing that’s going to “snap” it off. It’s been up for about 5 yrs now, still doing great!😉
