BUILDING MY HURDY GURDY // DREHLEIER BAUEN MIT WALTER SIMONS

ENGLISH SUBTITLES AVAILABLE! :)
Patty Gurdy's Facebook Page: / pattygurdy
My instrument is called "hurdy gurdy" and it has its roots in the medieval times. It works like a mechanical violin with a wheel bow, that can play bass, melody and rhythm all at once.
If you want to support me, give me a thumbs up and share this video on any social media platform you like!

Me too. I want to get one an learn. Also I gont know the name so them. But that song Animals by Martin something or another is actually 2-3 different music pieces from medieval times or before. A classicist friend of mine the first time he heard that song was like "whoa! That dude just made a harass euro-club/dubstep song out of 3 pieces of music, the one was sample of music is from ancient Rome or Greece around the 300-400AD!" And somehow he knew the name of it and was able to look up the music by name.

As a longtime guitarist who builds my own instruments, I found this really fascinating. Though I don’t speak German I still enjoyed this a lot. I only play guitars, but now I have been bitten by the folk music bug and I’d like to take up the fiddle and dulcimer. Who knows, maybe I’ll give the hurdy gurdy a try? I hope it’s never too late to start! BTW, Patty, I just love you and your music!

Within the captions I found (some of) the answers I had! Thank you. I am familiar with the woodworking processes that seem to be required (not just those shown), it would be lovely to spend the next 20 years making instruments for folks such as you Patty. I do understand there is much more to making musical instruments than there is in making storage boxes.

SO inviting and mesmerizing too! thank you for promoting this amazing instrument! Good luck with the "Album" launch! Ah! they are not called Albums or even CD's anymore, so what do we say these days? Good luck with the digital release?? Digital seems so foreign to an archaic instrument! Well best of the best kind of LUCK!

Same here. Maybe not quite that green but a slightly more Jarhead appropriate OD green-ish... I want one. The only Hurdy Gurdies I can find that appear to be quality and like they would be comfortable to play is on EBay there are some by a Ukrainian maker for about $1200-1400 and then there are a shit ton from some maker in China that are around $1200. The place I looked at a couple years ago basically only makes the beginner small mandolin style one and do3ant make any other model anymore. :(

Hallo!
