    Hi, I am a engineering apprentice and one of the key things that I have learnt is spindle speeds. Its a general rule that the bigger it is, the slower the speed while remaining with a consistat feed. When countersinking you need to keep the speed low to around 150 to 200 RPM to allow the bit to cutter otherwise it likes to bounce. Not having a go at you, just a bit of advise.

  • @camshand

    @camshand

    8 ай бұрын

    Appreciate it mate 👍 this was my first time using the drill press, I did consider looking up if there was a better speed but changing the order of countersink then drill worked well enough. Next time though I'll try changing the belt to a lower rpm 🤙

    When I built a desk with these profiles, I learned to use clamps to hold the profiles together before I screw them together. This is not strictly necessary, but it makes it easier to align everything perfect before screwing it together.

    can't wait to see the finished result with all the knobs and and cool features. Something I always wanted in my desk is a volume knob to spin! I just really love the feeling of mechanical things and doing digitally on the computer is not the same :( Another thing you could try would be to make wireless macropads with magnetic feet to stick to the metal beams, that way its secure and you could put it anywhere

  • @camshand

    @camshand

    9 ай бұрын

    Yooo how good are tactile knobs and switches! Something so satisfying about it. My AV receiver has a huge volume knob that is a great throwback to 90s tech. Love the idea of magnets, unfortunately I did think of that for some other features then remembered aluminium isn't magnetic 😥 For a modular idea though I've thought of removable panels that have maybe magnets recessed into the metal and acrylic. It's a far off idea though as the general desk build doesn't need it. But hey, don't need a lot of the cool stuff going into it haha 😂

I also have a 5x5 table for my 4x4 CNC. I have some cool pictures for where I got most of the extrusions which I'm happy to share if you want? I work in lighting automation in the film industry and got most of this from a movie called Secret Headquarters. It's called a Supernote, I absolutely love it. Runs a custom skinned version of Android to be a productivity focused ePaper tablet. I did a review on it titled "no more paper - Supernote" kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJxnl9eaYce4j5c.html

    Well it was over a period of months coming up with ideas, ordering and waiting on material samples etc. and also trying to find an affordable way to do it as damn metal adds up!

    Amazing question! It was going to cost a lot more to have the supplier cut non squares. So it was purely to save money

    Nice desk! I also build a desk with similar profiles. There is a good free program which makes it easy to construct anything with these profiles: MAY-CAD
