I think the way to tweak this to make it more reasonable would be to decide how many rooms you want, generate the numbers and lay all the boxes out on the lot and then try to fit them together before doing any furnishing.

Loved this challenge. Would love to see you try "every room is the same size", so you have to choose a size of room (like 4x4 for example) and make everything that size. Bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms...

I did this with my friend- First time we got 3 x 1…had to respin lol Second time we got 8 x 7… Bathrooms were fun lol we ended up doing like a fancy sink island thing with a tub, shower, toilet, and like a counter space/vanity separated by half walls

Honestly this is most realistic house I've ever seen in the sims. Every house I've ever lived in has had weird dividing walls, skinny weird rooms, strange roofing, and just... odd layouts in general. I love it a lot.

I thought that too! My house makes no sense there's a long skinny bedroom up in the attic next to an octagonal bedroom both with huuuuge long skinny closets, then downstairs on the second floor there's 2 normal decent sized square rooms, a skinny L shaped room with a ling skinny closet, and then a short skinny bedroom but it has the biggest closet in the house 😂 this just really reminds me of that

That’s what I was saying! Like this house is definitely realistic, I could just imagine that the first floor was the og ranch style house and then they added on a second floor for more bedrooms

The fact that you were still able to roof this and make it look good is insane. I would combust trying to do this.

I would have made that long awkward bedroom a play room, that leads into a kids bedroom. I would have also made that 1x3 room downstairs (cat room) into a mudroom, so there was an entrance to the backyard.

Love it how she made it "rule" to not change room plan. I would've done it like randomized room sized for every room and then made it puzzle to make an floor plan with them and then choose which room is which

idk, but those challenges are SO MUCH FUN to watch!

id honestly love to see a video of kayla renovating builds she made from challenges, like these where she’s allowed to do whatever she wants

I definitely think a renovation of this would be cool! Also a more evil version of this challenge where once you place and furnish a room you can't change it would be hilarious and painful

Been thinking about this challenge, I don’t know if it already exists tho- Multi challenge Challenge where each room follows a random challenge, like each room is randomized with a price, style, and size for example! I think it’d be really chaotic

I really like the way her videos are made like it all flows, there's no " HEY GUYS" or "I GONNA START NOW" she just does it and makes conversation and it keeps you interested

It’s funny how her “bad” house is something that I would be genuinely proud of 😂

for the upstairs hallway issue, i would've made the first 'hallway' into a landing, turned the kid's room into a proper hallway, and had an archway instead of a door connecting them together, i think that would look pretty cool

Challenge - Each room is a different challenge-challenge. *Townie, colour, size, budget, pack etc. 1. Decide on what kind of room. 2. Spin the wheel. If you get size you'll have to spin another wheel with various size options. If you get on colour your spin a wheel with various colour options. Good luck!

This was so fun! I’d love to watch a renovation. This house has good bones! Probably needs a second floor expansion? I also have a different build challenge for you: a legacy build challenge where you get 10 rooms, and each room is based on a different generation of a 10 gen challenge. It could be Not So Berry, since that is popular, so there would be a mint room based on the mint gen’s interests, rose based on rose, etc. But, I’d also love a Potts family build where each room is based on a different heir from the Potts legacy!

i'm in love with the way the downstairs turned out! so yeah, i'm totally down for a reno of this one!

Thank you for the inspiration, Kayla! I will be doing this challenge myself, with some changes. I think I’ll allow myself to rearrange the rooms how I want, as long as I’m not changing the size. That way, I’m only stuck with their dimensions, not where I place them.

I used to have a bedroom in real life that was totally a 7 by 2 room so it doesn't even seem that weird to me. Italian houses are funky.

Ironically, the 1x6 could have been a bathroom; a toilet at one end, a sink at the other, and a discover university shower - which you *can* walk through somewhere else in the room. Then you have a long, skinny bathroom. As could the 1x3. Sink, shower in middle, toilet on otherside - door in to room in front of shower.

I'd love to see a renovation for this build! has so much potential

Am i the only one that think the house looks actually really good? The interior and exterior look great to me! And I build mostly modern builds! Kayla, stop underestimating yourself!

Would've made that final 6x4 a bedroom that's connected to the hallway via a cute lil balcony out front, have the bedroom placed next to the kids room and forward towards front of the house

Roof Clipping tip You can Shift click on the arrows of the roof and adjust 1 side and leave the other as is. Sometimes works but helps so much when the roof starts clipping and looks like a nightmare.

i wasn't expecting the long bathroom to end up looking good, but laundry day really saved it. I would've used that room for a small kitchen. it's pretty common to have a galley kitchen, a corner kitchen or just a small version of what you made. I also would have utilized spandrels with the other long room to make the upstairs hallway bigger and then used the bigger rooms for bedrooms. You could also utilize divider items with moveobjects on instead of walls and halfwalls and fancy fences to break up rooms.

Tbh, I think this is the most realistic house I ever seen built in the sims. A bunch of weird rooms that make no sense so we just shove furniture inside and hope for the best. Good job, all of the houses I lived on feel represented now.

Each room themed on a career or skill? Like a writer's library, or a baker's kitchen? Perhaps randomised the room as well? Get a candlemaker's bathroom or a gardener's entryway.

This is cool challenge but let’s be honest… nothing can beat the Bob Pancakes shrine room 😏😆😌

with those tiny 1x(1-4) rooms, i love turning it into a linen closet with the washing machines, vaccums, clutter- its a good use of space & it feels homey to me

you could have used the other big room upstairs as another living space, perhaps a room with bookshelfs and a computer, and put the kid's room on the other side of it

I think it actually looks good! The roofing is an art and you've mastered it.

Kayla continuously saying how bad it is and this looks like the best build I could make 😂

the roofing is absolutely FANTASTIC, it makes the house 100% playable!

plumbella did a version of this recently but she generated tile amounts for her room size and so she could make them whatever shape maybe you should try that too

This house literally looks good like, the roof doesn’t look terrible at all, the rooms fit great together- you could’ve made that last room a playroom for the kid upstairs tbh but, idk I really liked this house it’s very different

Imo you managed to make this a rather realistic build that still looked super cute in the sims so you definitely deserve some credit for that!

Me's mind: This has got to be so easy Me actually trying it: UM ACTUALLY I MAY BE HAVING SECOND THOUGHTS- Me to my friends: Yeah it was a breeze Moral: Don't try hard things and you won't end up lying

this kind of chalence really depends on the dice roll. also I would maybe remove the 1 on the random or add 1 to the top of the random and remove 1 size if its over 3 so that you have less chance to roll 1.

I would have absolutely quit. You did an AMAZING job Kayla!!! That roof turned out so well given the floor plan. Definitely renovate it for another video 🙂

So I used to roof actual houses and that little alcove type spot on the first floor roof that goes into the second floor is actually something I’ve seen on multiple roofs irl so I wouldn’t stress to much about that

i love that with regular speed builds and such, youve been branching out to non-blue-suburbans but when its a stressful build challenge you revert to what youre comfortable with. so so valid

My finance's childhood bedroom is actually a long skinny 7x2 kinda room built over a space between two terraced houses. So that kids room isn't as unrealistic as you think (and it was equally as difficult to furnish irl)

easy mode: randomise 10 boxes and use them in any way you please. not using all is allowed. medium mode: randomise and add boxes one by one, no furnishing yet. hard mode: what kayla did lol. randomize, decide what it is, add on, furnish, no (big) changes allowed after!

no because that downstairs bathroom was actually so cute

you could also try making each room have the same amount of tiles, like for example 4 x 6 and 3 x 8

this is cool, it reminds me of a late 80's early 90's style build with the huge bathrooms and the style of the exterior

This randomizer idea sounds like an evil good idea for a shell challenge!! You make a shell with randomized room sizes to post for the challenge. :)

You are a master builder. The roofing was fantastic!! I think this random generator for room size would be a lot of fun for an intense shell challenge.

You should've put a pet door into the cat room and a self cleaning litter box for more space.

When she did the 7×2 bedroom for the kids my brain was like screaming at her to make it a hallway extension to the stairway 😭 like putting in an arch and using it as a hallway to put doors in to other rooms 11:07

tbh you made it work really well. the upstairs isn't that terrible! the kid's bedroom could have been an attic that has been renovated when the family expanded!

Ooo!! You should do another ‘randomise numbers’ challenge but you randomise the number of tiles each room can have? So each time you spin the generator and you have to make a room that’s 7 tiles, or 23 tiles etc ? I feel like that could be a fun challenge!

I think this house has potential (especially if you’re allowed to split up the rooms) and I would love to see this house all fixed up!

idea: make filler rooms that don't have function, so you can make a more traditional shaped house. Kinda like drywall

the house turned out low key nice. i mean yeah some rooms are longer and different looking than rooms builders would usualy put, but i think those rooms made the house look great in some way.

Similar challenge, but for us less creatively inclined. Write down different room sizes on paper and draw them, that way you don’t get constant repeat weird rooms

Same idea but maybe generate all the room sizes first, make the boxes, and then stick them together in a way that makes sense (I guess it’d be easier but it’s okay to make a challenge easier for yourself!). Also, I think you could replace the walls with fences/trusses. Technically still a divider but could create open spaces

Evil version of this challenge: The first number is the left to right measurement, second is front to back. Like X and Y on a graph thing. I suck at mathematical things. lol Side Note: I have to say, one of my favorite bits of CC to date is the in counter trash can from Ravasheen. No more trash can sitting in the room!

I wish you had done this where you said what the room was going to be then spinned for the dimensions so it's more challenging

I'm in the Midwest and there are a number of farmhouses out here that have that lopsided look. A lot of them have a three seasons room/patio situation going on, which contributes...

I just started playing this challenge and I added one more challenge to this. First I used random number generation to choose me the number of rooms in that house, 10 (settings in random number generations were 4-12 for number of rooms). Made it harder for sure, as few last rooms were huge and I had to add upstairs and basement and only smaller rooms were 2x2 and 1x2 so those are bathrooms now in a house with huge 6x6 and 6x7 bedrooms :D

I would’ve just made that 7x2 that’s upstairs next to the hall basically just an extension of the hall. Like put an archway between the halls and maybe fit a desk or chess table in there with some doors connecting to more rooms

This was super fun to watch! As someone who has been trying to do more build challenges, I would love to see more of this one.

hi simsie! I just wanted to let you know that I used to watch you in 7th grade homeroom and now I'm a senior in high school. It's so fun to see you grow up!

This challenge reminded me of a challenge I did a while ago. The challenge was that you have several rooms placed on a lot and with them you have to create a house, but each room has to at least touch 2 Walls of another room. So p.e. you couldn't put an i-shaped room next to each other, because they would only touch 1 wall of the other room. Well in the challenge we just got one i-shaped room to build with.

Idea: build a shell, then spin a wheel to decide what each room gets made into. Except you don’t get rid of any of the options once the wheel has landed on them - could end up with a normal house, or one that’s all bathrooms. Good potential for chaos.
