Building and Testing a Canoe

Back in June, I was visiting a good friend Oli in Devon. During my time, I was fortunate to see how this beautiful canoe was built by David (Oli's dad) and test it along the river Dart.
David talks about the stages of building your own canoe from scratch, creating this great form of travel from ply wood and Ash. The 16ft canoe has now just been built after 7 gradual years. This is something great to do if you enjoy woodworking, crafting things from scratch and canoeing. It can take however long depending on your schedule and the time/ patience you have.
It was amazing to chat with David and I personally feel very inspired by this awesome project. I hope you do too and enjoy the video :)
Take care and have a lovely summer x

A true craftsman. Then again what you do building your shelters is just as skilful. Speaking as someone who is hopeless with their hands, I take my hat off to you both. Take care till next time Becks xx

Beautiful. Before I was born, my grandfather made a strip kayak. My dad found it in the barn several years ago. It had fallen apart

I've been contemplating a canoe build for a while .. This has now convinced me to get on with it. Just have to make the space. The wife isn't happy, but the dog house is a small price to pay. 👍

Brilliant!!! Looks an absolute peach. I think the way a project like that gets done in three weekends is by setting the standard WAY lower, and skip 98% of the rub down, wipe, rub down, wipe cycles. HOWEVER the man on a galloping horse then needs to be the other side of the field as well.
