Building an RC boat - can I make a Chris Craft Corvette out of the Aeronaut Victoria? Part 5.

In this video, I install the electrical setup inside the boat.

The 'Chris Craft' Corvette is coming along nicely. I love the detailed decking. Many thanks for posting!

I've been enjoying your build/conversion, impressed with your ingenuity. I have a really old Sterling 63-Foot Motoryacht, with old brush motor and Astroflight speed control, using a large toggle switch and servo for reverse. I hollowed out the Sterling "leadloy" light fittings and installed grain of wheat bulbs and used small servos and and pushrods with egg shaped cams and microswitches to turn running, cabin and decklights separate channels. I'm toying with the idea to convert to brushless motor and reversing speed control, and lipo power, use of modern electronic switches, LED's etc. It has a swiveling search light and bicycle horn. I made venetian blinds for the side windows of 1/64 ply slats. I hand carved people and deck furniture including iconic bikini girls for the front deck. Made rear deck furniture from mahogany stock. My model needs a good repaint/refinishing, ( I'm lousy at painting too). I imagine you are going to fashion a "bull nose" somehow for the bow. Will be watching your progress.

Oh, and I forgot to ask, why only two blades on the prop ?

That's a hefty bit of motor in there. What did you use for seals to keep water from entering through the prop and rudder shafts ? It's coming up a charmer.

No seals, only grease. And the two bladed prop was the one provided by the model boat shop as suitable for this boat.

I see that you're using 2.4g radio - just FYI, I believe that you don't need the capacitors on the motor with 2.4g because interference was only a problem with the older 27/35/40mhz radios. The frequency of commutation is nowhere NEAR 2.4Ghz so apparently causes no problem. (I'm not a radio or electronics specialist so don't put your life on the line based on this gen. Maybe a better informed watcher could elucidate.) The boat is looking very nice BTW. Strange that I'm following this series really - I'm really not into boats (I'm a glider guider). Oh well, carry on...

I enquired about this when I bought the boat and also did a bit of research myself. The model shop said that whilst it probably wasn’t essential to put the capacitors on, it wouldn’t do any harm. Similar views were expressed online. Another reason that was mentioned is to avoid interference for other boat users who may be on the older frequencies. So I decided to put them on. Thanks for the comments 👍

Peter, I am just starting the RC sailing as a hobby and fell into following your boat build. It has inspired me to build my own boat without all the modifications you have done. Can you link the make and model of the kit info? I need it the instructions in English please. I am in the US. Thanks

Thanks for the nice comments I don’t have a link but if you just Google Aeronaut Victoria you should be able to find a shop that sells one. I bought this one from Cornwall Model Boats in the UK.
