Building an Outdoor Fireplace (with tips from a professional mason!)
#outdoorfireplace #outdoorliving #outdoorfireplacedesign
I am SO EXCITED to share our biggest project yet!!! Our outdoor fireplace with bench seating is pretty stinking amazing and we're sharing the entire process in this video. I designed this outdoor fireplace to complement our home's French colonial exterior. We're going for an "old world French countryside" feel and I think we nailed it!
We hired a man named Tony to lay the brick and stone and he shared a ton of great tips and tricks, drawing from his 40+ years of experience as a third generation stone mason! (And he was a real sport, answering my many, MANY questions, all while having a camera in his face the entire time! Thank you Mr. Tony!) I'm thrilled he was so generous in sharing his knowledge and skill so I can pass it onto you! (If you're in the central Kentucky area and are on the hunt for a mason, I'd be happy to give you his info.)
Watch the video to see how this beautiful outdoor fireplace came together - we're covering the site prep, roughing in, stone veneer installation, and more. If you have any questions, drop them in the comment section below! And if you enjoyed this video, I'd love for you to share it! Thanks so much for watching!

Considering the lack of work during covid, I'm sure Tony was happy to have the work. I married a brick/stone mason's daughter. Her entire childhood is made up of lean and fat years.
Wow! Tony did a great job!
awsome work!!!!!
Looks so good Jen!!!
Looks amazing and works as a privacy wall from neighbors! The best thing is that it was accomplished as a family project.
That is a master-level outdoor fireplace. Very awesome!!
Gorgeous!
Wow!! Looks amazing!
Wonderful outcome, exactly what we are hoping to achieve. I love the mason built look with mortar tucked joints over the stacked stone kits. Thank you for sharing your experience with such detail.

Great job Tony! I like the rake you had on the back of the fire box. Those radius's look great as well. From one mason to another, you did a hell of a job!
i luv luv that outside fireplace
Great video!!
looks amazing!
the smile from dad at the end xD
Pretty awesome
Love it .I have been a stonemason for 35 years yes I would have done somethings differently but the end result is very nice and more important your happy with it . Most likely the reason behind the wide range in price is because of different way of doing it .

Correct. You’re at risk for pneumoconiosis, an irreversible, progressive, fatal restrictive lung disease when you inhale fine particles such as cement dust.

Cheers for the Video clip! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you considered - Panilliaan Immaterial Prevalence (probably on Google)? It is a good exclusive guide for protecting your family from danger without the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my buddy after many years got astronomical success with it.
Good idea about "lowering the opening" to the firebox at the last minute. It probably wouldn't have been a problem for such a massive chimney that draws well, but if there is going to be a smoke problem with a fireplace, many stem from the top (entrance) being too high. Lowering 4 or 5 inches increases draft, and of course, makes it that much harder for any smoke to get out.
Wow it turned out really nice
thank you for sharing, I learned a lot. You have a beautiful family, God bless all..!!
Well-done video explaining and showing details of this beautiful project!
funny behind the scene 😂 I actually enjoyed watching this random clip

@@michaelz6870 I agree! My local brick & stone yard gave me a couple of catalogs to look through and then ordered a few samples for me to see in person. I ended up choosing Horizon Stone 19th Century Canyon Ridge because it complemented our house so well: www.horizon-stone.com/19thcentury/

Awesome project. i would like to make an outdoor fireplace. It looks better than a fire pit lol.
Thanks for sharing. You will be amazed at how much more time you spend outdoors. I'm curious, what did your children think of the project and are they enjoying the finished product?
👋Hi,.. They obviously paid a mint on this addition but it was well worth it. The value of their home went up ten fold . Great job & video !
Awesome project, and it was designed well to look very good. There is only one slight problem on how the seating and hearth were veneered. The horizontal slab stone should overhang the vertical veneer stone, rather than the vertical stone being in front of the horizontal hearth stone. As it is installed, there is a water penetration joint at that intersection. I understand it is not part of your house, so water intrusion is not a huge concern, but eventually, the water intrusion will damage the mortar holding the vertical veneer stone, and repairs will be necessary, especially after any wet freeze - thaw cycles. Maybe this occurred due to the size of the hearth stone that was used not being wide enough, so something to plan for to avoid this situation.

Also, since they filled the center with soil, when it gets wet and freezes, it will push the face out.
State of the brickwork on that chimney 🤣
Love the fireplace, it looks amazing! We are getting a price on one, but it will be all white brick. Great video. I felt like i was watching HGTV lol
