Building an 80s Movie Icon: Tim Burton's Batmobie from Batman by AMT Step by Step

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

One of the most iconic movie cars of all time! Unique, inspiring, and down right beautiful. The Burton Batmobie will live on as one of the most memorable things from the Burton Batman movies. AMT did a kit and while it is not too complicated, it does have some potential for some great detail, if you desire.

    Thanks so much. I was trying to stay away from the super gloss look that I believe the second movie used. I really like the semi gloss of how this one turned out. Thanks for watching.

    You made that all look so easy Spencer. I was thinking when you were painting the body that it would be easy to tiger stripe that big of a body. You did a good job of evenly covering the body! I’m awaiting the next build my friend. -JT

    I did a full 3 coats so it is not too bad. The first mist coat was pretty thin but I know what you are saying! Stripes would not look so good on a Batmobile. haha.

    AMT is great for cheap, not really awesome kits. They do a ton of interesting subject matter but some of their kits are pretty rough. If you are used to building Japanese then AMT will likely make you want to pull your hair out!

    Two things no one ever fixes/gets right. The Hub Caps should be black, only chrome should be the bat symbol. Second, no one ever tents the windows. But fantastic build man.

    Just purchased this kit. After watching this video, I'm glad I did . Fantastic job! I really like the way the instrument panel came out. A superb build! Don't have an airbrush... I'm a rattle can guy. The paint looks spot-on! I think I can duplicate this. Going to use a technique on the chrome parts that I've seen a guy who builds NASCAR vehicles use... black-wash. I will be using Tamiya panel line wash. Should work the same. Wish me luck.

    The black wash should turn out really nice on this kit. I considered it but went a different route this time around. I have used it on many other builds tho. I am sure your build will turn out great. Nothing wrong with a rattle can paint job! Enjoy the kit.

    Hey excellent job with this batmobile... I recently was able to get one of this kit and I was looking for ideas and tips and I found your video and that bring me to this question... what paints and color did you use on the dashboard and underneath the car... after you apply some masking tape... what color is that one too? Please help

  • @ScaleAutoGarage

    Thanks for your comment. I use mainly Tamiya paints in my builds and this one was no exception. The silver on the bottom was gunmetal and the black just regular tamiya semigloss black. I believe I used just the Tamiya Chrome Silver on the dash with various gel pens for the details.

    I must congratulate you you actually filled the rear seams. May I ask though why did you not strip the chrome as there is none on the real car

  • @ScaleAutoGarage

    @ScaleAutoGarage

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the compliment! It is appreciated. As for the chrome, I think I dulled it a bit but yeah, didn't strip it entirely. I think if you look at photos of the first movie car and the second one, they are slightly different. I didn't like the gloss black of the second movie version which is why I went with a Semigloss on this one and I think from photos it had the chrome parts slightly metallic or chrome looking anyway so I didn't change it. It was a while ago since I build this so I don't really recall all my choices. 😂😂

    Im getting back into building model cars and I have this kit. Could you recommend me the materials and paints used in your build? I also would love to know what you used to mask up the lines caused by the batwings in back. Definitely some kind of putty or fiberglass/bondo like material

    I personally use mainly Tamiya paints, both the jar and the spray versions. I find they work very well and are easy to use and to clean up as well. Any type of craft or model paint works so it depends on what is available in your particular area. To fill the gaps on the fins I used Tamiya's basic putty. It comes in small tube and is very easy to sand to get a nice surface. When used with Tamiya primer, you can't even see the gap was there!
