Building a Wood Laptop Table / Stand / Desk Quick DIY Project
I felt like a bad infomercial every time I used my laptop on my lap so I had to do something about it. A quick trip to the hardware store and a few bucks later I had the small requirement of parts.
I grabbed a piece of pine 16" x 48" to use as the top. I then used red oak for the legs. I just figured it'd be a nice contrast and I think I was right. The nuts, bolts, and washers were standard 1/4" x #20.
I cut the top down to 13" x 20" and it's working just fine. I definitely could've gone a little wider to get better space for using the mouse, but it'll do for now.
The legs were cut down to 9". Not on the video is me cutting angles at the top of each leg. This was to ensure unrestricted movement of the legs when opening and closing them. You'll see what I mean.
Don't rag on me too hard for using 5-minute epoxy. :) I needed something that would cure quickly and be strong. It really is holding up very nicely. Very strong connection. I did throw some brad nails into the top, through the border. I did this on the inside and at an angle so you wouldn't see them. Double protection from failure in my eyes!
After it was all glued and cured, I simply put the nuts in the predrilled holes and tightened until I had the friction where I wanted.
All in all, an easy but fun little build! And useful!

    Check it Out!! Watch me Build a Wood Laptop Table / Stand / Desk Quick DIY Project!! For anyone asking, here are the dimensions I used Tabletop - 13" x 21" x .75" Fame for the legs - (2) 19" x 1.5" x .75" and (2) 10.5" x 1.5" x .75" Legs - (4) 8" x 1.5" x .75". **If I were to do it again I would make the legs slightly longer, possibly 10". The brace that goes between the legs - 9" x 1.5" x .75" Hope this helps!!

If you suggest to make the legs 10" then I would need to make the frame for the legs slightly longer as well or the legs would not fold inward. What length would you suggest I make the frame to fit the 10" legs?

@@carlosbergante4316 Hey Carlos, honestly didn't think of that when I wrote it.. I was just thinking for comfort to raise the table up a little bit. But, if I were to make one again, I would probably just increase the top to 24". That should accommodate 9" or even 9.5" legs, plus give you a bit more room on the top. For 10", maybe bump it up to 25"-26".

Awesome! I'm an old guy that's gone through stage 4 Cancer and stage 3 kidney disease and I've never been the same. Making a lap table like this is exactly what I need for when I'm reading and writing! Thank you ! 🇺🇸🙏❤

Looks good. What angle did you cut the legs that meet the floor? The angles from the top of each leg look like 45s. Thanks!

Thanks!! Yeah they were cut at roughly 45ish so they’d sit flat when folded out.

    Hey! I did just wing it as I went to be honest. The top is based solely on the dimensions of MY laptop with a little extra. Here is what I used - Tabletop - 13" x 21" x .75" Fame for the legs - (2) 19" x 1.5" x .75" and (2) 10.5" x 1.5" x .75" Legs - (4) 8" x 1.5" x .75". **If I were to do it again I would make the legs slightly longer, possibly 10".
