Building A Water Cooling Wall & Adding A Shade Cloth To The Greenhouse

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Early this spring or late last year I picked up enough water wall panels to build 2 greenhouse water walls. A lady was selling a lot of her greenhouse pieces. I was able to get them for pennies on the dollar. I just had to figure how to fabricate everything else so that it would work. Take a look at the video and tell me what you think.

That worked out really great. A bit of thought and hard work, and it just keeps getting better. You can't do all that, and keep things in perfect order. I first have to wreck my entire house before I can get it the way I want it, and do it right. So don't worry about it being so neat when your doing hard work, it will be perfect in the end. Besides, I'm more interested in what your doing, and why, then how clean the greenhouse is. Just think, one day, after you have everything up, then we can hound you about not keeping a perfectly clean greenhouse!!! LOL I hope you had a wonderful Birthday, and bless you for sharing your work with us, I really do love it. Bless, Sheila

Fensterfarm Greenhouse Trust me, I'm the same, and I love order, but after all these years, I'm finally figuring it out, that I can wait on things, even though they still "talk" to me and try to remind me that I haven't finished them yet. I am getting better at it though. LOL Looks like we are two peas in a pod. I've also found that I'm too old to be driven anymore, and find it easier to tell that "pest" to shut up! LOL I even have a new goal. I intend to find all the scripture I can, that has anything good to say about us as believers, and toss it into the face of that nagging brain of mine. Not positive thinking, just good old, tried and true, word of God. Let my brain answer to that!!! Bless, Sheila

Turned out pretty good, Chuck! Yeah, you definitely need more water, so the bigger pump was a good idea! Are you planning to ad back the shutters? You could add more to what you already had, and still get enough airflow. When winter gets here, you are going to need that closed off, but still be able to ventilate! Just my .02 ; )

  • @FensterfarmGreenhouse

    @FensterfarmGreenhouse

    8 жыл бұрын

+Keyplayr61 Greenhouse Hydroponics And Gardens I will not be adding the shutters to this GH Keith. I will probably install them in GH#2 should I ever have time to build it??? When I reworked that end wall to frame in the water wall, I added wire channel around the frame to secure the plastic to the new frame. I will just be putting 2 layers of plastic over the new opening and using the channel and wiggle wire to secure it. Should be just like the opening was never there without having to take anything down. If I need some ventilation before it gets hot enough to remove it entirely, I will just remove a little of the wire at a time from the outside. Hope that makes sense? Chuck

+Rev John O'Toole I had retractable side curtains on my last greenhouse John and I ended up with too many varmints / critters/ bugs in the greenhouse. Plus it really didn't cool the house off like I had hoped. When I purchased this greenhouse the manufacture told me that the airflow system in this greenhouse would keep it cooler than side curtains would even without the water wall and he was right. I just took it to the next level (as I often do) by adding the shade cloth and the water wall. I also ran the wire channel around the frame of the endwall that I just modified for the evaporation panels so that I can close up the greenhouse with 2 layers of plastic when the cold weather arrives so it would be like the water wall was never there from the outside of the house. Hope that made sence! Thanks John Chuck

+Leesville Aquaponics Homestead I can tell you that it drops the temp about 15 to 20 degrees in there already. It is wonderful. I will be able to work in there all summer with the combination of the water wall and the shade cloth. I was able to score the panels from a lady that was downsizing on her farm by getting rid of several greenhouses and pieces of those greenhouses. Those panels sell for over 60 dollars a piece plus shipping whey you purchase them new and I got them for better than 1/20th of that price. I have not done a video on where they came from they just show up in the greenhouse in February on my video "Grow Bags, Dutch Buckets, & Algae". Chuck

I also have 4 high velocity horizontal air flow fans in there to circulate the air should I need them. Those fans are used more for heating the GH than cooling though. Chuck

John Chase It is a coated craft paper product so it lasts several years. Just have to be careful with it. Cleaning it can be tricky! I have an above ground reservoir that cycles through this system and the water is cooled by the air moving through it. The 2 huge exhaust fans on the opposite side of the house pull air through it at a rapid rate and it’s amazing how cool the air is on the inside when it’s running. Chuck

Also we hooked up some misters last summer on the deck and the humidity was so high they didn't work very well. Are you concerned about that? Yes, you'll lose a lot of water but you probably won't be running it 24/7. What if you divided the pipe into 2 or 3 zones? Great job as usual. I was planning on getting 30% as my concern is sun intensity and I can use the cloth like your wall. did you get the reflective cloth? I have a timer from my grow room that will allow me to mist say, every 10 min for 30 sec, as an example.

+David Dube' I am actually setting it up on the thermostat that I had for the shutters. Should work nicely. I just bought a 1/2 hp utility pump for the system and it pushes more than enough pressure through the sprayer pipe. In fact I am putting a ball valve in to regulate it a bit. I did not get the reflective cloth. Some of the reviews said that it was not as durable and became brittle over time. I also have a float valve in the reservoir that keeps the water level constant. What water I loose in evaporation I never see in the tote. Chuck

No, I use well water for the cooling system James. It is a closed loop system but it is separate from the aquaponics water. I do lose quite a bit through evaporation in the cooling system but the amount that I lose through aquaponics is hard to determine when you factor in the amount consumed by the plants growing in it? Hope that helps, Thanks for following along my friend! Chuck

We used to use off the shelf swamp coolers when I worked on oil rigs in West Texas and New Mexico and they work like a dream there. I'm thinking about moving to West Texas soon and want to get into aquaphonics but we will be living inside city limits so no well water sadly.

Why didn't you use aluminum wall studs to make the frame of the unit? The aluminum wall studs have a natural recess and could make a good framework that would not rot. If you ever have to replace the wood go with aluminum wall studs.

Kyu Lee - van Wijk very good points. I may do that in the future too. I was trying to come up with something that would work quickly. I had to design it myself since all I had was the panels and nothing else from the original system. I had never even seen one in person before I built this one. Lol Just glad it worked! Chuck

Jeremy Ure Atlas manufacturing out of Georgia. It was a little over 17,000 everything included. Heater. Exhaust fans and shutters and circulating fans. Oh and the thermostats too. That also covers the flooring and both layers of greenhouse film to cover it. Hope that helps. I bought the other 3 greenhouses from a lady that sold her business. Paid 5000 for all 3. I had to take them down though. Chuck

Nitin Rana that system will do both. I am not aware of a formula. The more air that you pull through it the better it cools. I just went as big as I could go. Good luck! Chuck

So I don't think you ever mention the outside temp or the inside temp with no fans or water wall on. During one month out of my summer each year we get near 120 degrees outside and stays 105 at night. Would the shade and water wall reduce that 120 down to 80 where I'd like to see it?

Winters in southern Utah are most years at a night time low of 22 degrees. Ever few years we will get down to 8-9 degrees int h dead of winter. It's pretty easy to heat a green house here though, so I'm not worried about that.

Depending on the humidity outside of the greenhouse I can usually get 20 degrees below ambient. The larger the water wall and the stronger the exhaust system the more drop you should get. Chuck

+Belles Human Thank you sister! It was a great birthday this year. My eldest daughter gave me another grandson the day before my birthday. I suppose that it will degrade over a few years but they sell replacement panels (3 for 175 dollars). Kind of pricey but if I get 5 -10 years out of them I will replace them. The difference in temps in that greenhouse is amazing. I cannot wait to see your garden. BTW, what do I call you? Belles? God Bless, Chuck
