Building a VINTAGE Heye puzzle from 1974!

I’m excited to share the first of my vintage Heye puzzles that I got on a recent charity shop puzzle haul. This one is called Captain Flint’s Party, with artwork by Jean-Jacques Loup and it is 1000 pieces. Will I have all the pieces I wonder…? Let’s find out!

Some of the Loup Puzzles are really rare and expensive to get. I love them because my father did them all the time when I was a kid and I still have them. The boxes you have are in really good shape and even have the poster. I hope you find the missing pieces. But they are even sellable with missing pieces. I do have the Flint's Party too, with one missing piece.;)

Yes, I was very lucky! The Mordillo and Rybas too can be hard to find. I was very pleased with the shape that the boxes are in, and was honestly surprised to find posters 😍 I’m loving building them all, and am still holding out some hope for the pieces to turn up 🤞

You covered all my comments, so there is nothing left to comment...except that I loved the closeups especially those funny cooks! And I did find a puzzle piece once under my desk mat, LOL! That puzzle reminds me of the last 2 I built..Piatnik Supervised Feast, and my current Ravensburger Crazy Cat Alphabet due to the great attention to detail, and the cute images you find in just one puzzle piece!

Absolutely! That’s an very accurate description - I love this type of funny cartoon art, it’s so fun to puzzle, especially when it’s really detailed as I continually notice new things as i’m puzzling 😍

Yep! I also hope you find the pieces and am betting they are in another one. I have had to "guess" where a piece went in similar puzzles. I put them Ina little sandwich bag so they don't get enmeshed and then hope. Lol Enjoying your puzzles! ❤️

I’ve only ever have done one puzzle by heye… I’ve seen triangle boxes. Certainly different but not sure they would fit under my stairs with the other box shapes!! 😁🧩👍🏻 nice video

That's such a funny image! The water section though, jeez 💀. It's such a shame for the 2 missing pieces but like you said, there's hope with the piece you found 😂. I love thrifted puzzles. I find a lot of mine in charity shops and its always a gamble for the piece count 😂

It is funny! 😁 I know, the water was hard to do, I’m glad that section wasn’t any bigger - and that there were people in the water to break up the blackness a bit. I do have hope for the other two pieces. It will be a fun treasure hunt! Thanks so much for watching! 😍

I am nearly finished the Costco puzzle of their store and there are more irregular pieces than standard pieces. There is big pieces and some which would be no bigger than a pinky fingernail. Makes for an exciting challenge. If you haven't got it it is well worth your while to do so as it is very good quality.

Heckuva vintage haul with some novel features you've got there! I can only hope that in your odyssey of completing all seven that you will find your missing pieces. Perhaps they were all donated by the same person and this was their devilish scheme. Truth can only be found after completing the seven strong gauntlet.

The image reminds me of High Jinks on the High Seas by Springbok! It only has one ship, but I wonder if they were done by the same artist?!

2 missing pieces: Put tape on the back behind the missing pieces hole. Fill the hole with lightweight painters spackle,,,dry then paint to match

😆 It’s funny how they just randomly show up like that when you aren’t looking for them. Yet when you scour every nook and cranny they just don’t show up!

I don’t want to burst your bubble but is it possible that the illustration dates from 1974, but the puzzle itself is from the late eighties? The recycling logo for plastic did not exist in the seventies…it was introduced in 1988 🤔🤔 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recycling_symbol

Hi! I actually had this thought when I first got the puzzle. It only has the one year on the box. I do have other old Heye puzzles from the same charity shop haul, one of which has a lid without the recycling logo and fits on this one. Because they are used puzzles, it seems highly likely that the lids have become mixed up. Having said that, there is only one without the logo and one of my other Heye puzzles has a definite date of manufacture in the late seventies, since it differentiates the artwork year from the puzzle manufacture year. So, as far as the recycling logo goes, I’m a bit stumped with that one - unless the person who donated the puzzles has others that they didn’t donate, with the wrong lids on them?? Anyway, several internet searches has thrown up 1974 as the year every time. If there is a different year of manufacture I don’t know what it is or how to find it, but I am sorely tempted to contact Heye and see if they will get back to me 😃

What a shame. The ecstasy of building a puzzle… the agony a missing piece. I think I would prefer two missing pieces instead of just one, but that’s me. Maybe with some luck those two pieces will be in the other boxes. Crossing my fingers for you. Heye puzzles are wonderful
