Building a Turtle Dock & Bridge from PVC

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Just a quick project I did for Franklin, my red ear slider so he has a more comfortable basking spot, and a way to get in and out of the pool on his own!

I love this video so much. The part where Franklin is snoozing in the bridge is the cutest. Its so nice to see how Franklin has gotten to be so happy over the last 8 months. Also if you can find water hyacinth turtles love that. You can usually find them at aquatic plants stores. And if you set up a smaller or aquarium where the plants will not be disturbed they will self reproduce. So eventually you can have a constant supply.

You should add some quick fish to the pool, like (rosy red minnows) My turtles used to live in an indoor 55 gallon tank and couldn't catch the fish their, so I'm sure it would work out in your little pond!!

My turtles loved Duck Weed and mini cat tails. They didn't touch the water Lilly's. And the flowers are beautiful. Also if you put a bunch of minnows or feeder guppies in your turtle will be healthier from the calcium she/he gets from the bones.

I heard that duckweed and water lettuce make great floating snacks for your turtle and I know that water lettuce is very hardy to care for. Just a suggestion though. Also have you ever thought about giving him a cuttlebone if he doesn't have one already? Those are good sources of calcium and can give him something to chew on. My stupid cousin practically abuses his turtle tippy (adult male lives in a 20L tank, doesn't have anything interesting in his tank and is constantly walk swimming!) and when I gave it a cuttlebone it ate it right up and even tried to eat the fake plants I bought him. That's obviously a telltale sign he doesn't take care of it right and then they get offended when I try to correct him. Ugh. Anyway, just a suggestion.

This is both adorable and highly informative! Very neat, Alex. If you don't mind me asking, where is Franklin allowed to go in your house? I would never be able to do something quite like this just because I'd be afraid of the turtle (I don't have one) going somewhere I can't manage him.

Hmm, I've noticed that snakes really don't like being able to hold onto anything, so if they're on a slippery surface, they sometimes freak out and move around because they're basically defenseless without a grip. Maybe it's related to that?

I typically use one teaspoon for 10 gallons of water with the brand I currently use. And the directions for Repti-safe say the same thing for 5 gallons. Just thought I would let you know.
