Building a Stormtrooper: Tools and supplies

This video covers the tools and materials required to construct your Stormtrooper or Sandtrooper costume.
This is an extensive list, so I'd advise pairing up with someone else who's building the costume if you want to reduce costs.
The list includes:
- nitrile gloves
- safety goggles
- NIOSH approved respirator
- medium and small bar clamps X 4
- spring clamps x 4
- leather punch
- hammer
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- drill and drill bits
- sharp hobby knife and spare blades
- steel ruler
- assorted paint brushes
- blue, grey, white nd black enamel paints (Testors, Model Master, Humbrol. See link below for color guide.)
- paint thinner to clean brushes
- paper towels
- 3/4" rare earth magnets (at least 20)
- lighter or matches (to seal ends of elastic or webbing)
- 5B pencils (or anything dark but removable)
- scissors
- Lexan scissors
- sandpaper (150-200 grit)
- small flat file
- Dremel with various bits
- split rivets for the left abdomen (6)
- split rivet for the cod piece (1)
- double cap rivets for the thigh ammo strip / battery pack (2)
- Tandy Line 24 snaps or equivalent (you will need approx 25-30)
- snap setting tool
- 1/8" x 1/8" pop rivets and backing washers
- pop rivet gun
- *optional: scrap or extra plastic to make snap plates (if using that option for strapping)
- *optional: 1" or 1.5" webbing for making snap plates (if using that option for strapping)
- *optional: heat gun
- E6000 adhesive (2 tubes to be safe)
- blue painters tape 1"
- popsicle sticks / tongue depressors
- heavy duty adhesive velcro (calf closure or alternative bra hooks)
Elastics for strapping: You can choose to use more accurate sized elastics if you wish, but they vary in width and elasticity from region to region. This is just a rough guide, see whitearmor or link below for more information.
- 4 meters / yards black 1 1/2" fabric elastic (main torso strapping and other areas)
- 2 meters / yards 2" black fabric elastic (garter)
- 3 meters / yards 1" black elastic (base of shoulder bells and left side torso *you could use 1.5" as well)
- your own standard belt or 1 1/2" nylon webbing, slider lock and buckle (garter belt)
- 1 meter / yard 1.5-2" white fabric elastic (shoulder chest to back elastics)
- 1 meter / yard 1" white elastic (drop boxes)
- *If you want to shoot for higher levels of accuracy, you may wish to purchase or make wire brackets and sew elastic loops for the torso strapping. See Whitearmor.net for more info.

Did you update what size washers to use on a later video for the rivets with the snaps? Or in this video are you talking about non snap usages?

Hi Joe, Im not sure. I buy the big 100 snap packages so they don't have a label, just clear bags. This is what you want right here! www.tandyleather.com/en/product/line-24-snaps Hope that helps!

You can find most of the tools from your local hardware stores such as Home Depot, Lowes etc. Elastics and webbing can be found at fabric stores. Tandy Leather sells all of the snaps and related hardware. Adhesives such as E-6000 can be found at hardware stores or craft stores. Let me know if you have problems finding a specific item, I will try and point you in the right direction. Hope that helps!

Thank you. That helps a lot. I appreciate your response. I'm building my 1st trooper for entry into the 501st so I want to meet requirements as best as possible.
