Building a RV-12
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
A short slide show on building our RV-12 . Started the project Nov 2008 and had first flight March 2010. After finishing that project, I built another RV-12 with same paint job, only changing the Tail logo for a friend. Helped another friend build his RV-12 after that. Fun airplane to fly.
Check out some of my flying videos below:
• RV-12 over North Georgia
• RV-12 1st eng runup.mp4 first engine start

That paint scheme is SWEET!

I built two with this paint scheme. The only difference was the tails, one had a Navy squadron, and the other was for a friend that wanted his Army unit.
Absolutely Amazing ! Thanks for sharing this with us. I have 3 boys , 2 are following in my footsteps as aircraft mechanics and number 3 wants to fly them. we may build one for us all to share and build time.

That would be a fun family project.
thanks great video
Wow great beautiful build , didn't realize the fuel tank was assembled as well, I assumed it came pre-built. Nice job
I’ve built a 12IS ( the first to fly in Australia) and a 7 and now building another 7 . The 12 flys just like the 7 I built, just a bit slower . Lovely plane to fly
Thanks for sharing!! Had no idea what an rv12 build looked like. Pulled rivets, nice! I like the way they designed the fuselage, with curved skins, plenty of stringers and bulkheads. Looks really strong! I am a fan of the Sonex, but the rv12 structure honestly seems to be considerably stronger. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.
I have a friend who has an RV7 he built that is hangered near you in Jasper and he has offered to let me fly with him to Oshkosh Airventure this year. Recently flew in an RV12. Thinking about getting back into aviation after being away for over 17 years. The RV12 looks to be a great plane to build time. Thanks for sharing this. Beautiful airplane!

The RV-7 is a very nice fast airplane. The RV-12 is much faster to build than the RV-7 because it uses mostly Pulled rivets.
I likely have a more limited budget than you, therefore I will not use a Rotax or UL etc, those engines are close to regular engine prices, big company, lots of overhead and share holders to pay for. I likely use an auto conversion engine instead of a snowmobile engine. Suzuki or Corvair.
Lovely build. How does the RV12 compare to the Zenith in terms of flying quality, handling , etc?

Both flew great. The Zenair 601HDS was slower, less hp. The RV-12 kit was pre cut parts, pre drilled and easier to build. My Zenair was an older kit, so pretty much everything had to be cut and fabricated. The newer Zenith kits are much like the RV-12 kits today with pre drilled and cut parts.

@@BlueColorKat Indeed. Zenith appears to be transitioning to match-hole final-size construction for their kits. Given that, I'm wondering if a CH 650 might be worthwhile vs a RV-12. One thing that concerns me is the numerous RV-12 bulletins, especially the one involving the gear reinforcement that would be quite hard to do after the aircraft is built.
Thanks for the great video. Can you tell me how many total hours it took to complete.

I don't have the books in front of me right now, but I recall somewhere around 750 hrs.
Looks like you've become the resident RV-12 expert, have you had any experience with the new iS kit?

No, but looks like it would be nice...
How did you fit the cowl without the engine?

If I remember right, I believe there was instructions and measurements to where to cut and assemble. I know it was a tight fit.
