Building a monster aquarium 700gal (Unedited)

building the monster aquarium for the new tropical fish shop which measures 2.9m2 x 1.2 x 700 mm and will hold 700 gallon or 3500 litres including the sump. This video is unedited due to lack of technical knowledge lol. The main challenge building this aquarium was the temperature been so cold and the silicone not wanting to come out the tube, please watch other videos on how we are converting a poly tunnel into a magical fish emporium.
Special thanks to Dan, Darren & Chris for helping

I agree with aaaheim, oils from your hands on the joints will cause it to fail. Also, a tall tank like that should have bracing. Thanks gonna be a mess when that tank fails.

This is amazing. I would love to see this tank holding water though. I wouldn't trust those sides just held together with silicone...especially for a tank this size. I would have the corners reinforced with aluminium edges. But I guess that these guys are professionals and know what they are doing. Assembled it in record time too. Inspiring.

    - 11,500 years from now - Breaking News Archeologists find a room, they don’t know what it is, what it was used for or how it was built. Wood, metal, plastics and other materials were used in the building process but it looks like the main components are precision, passion and a fun attitude. Experts believe that the room might have been built for the royals, aristocrats or kings, where they gathered to relax and think.

I like the idea of double bottom. I am building an aquarium of 1.3 mt by 55 cm and 80 cm height with 10mm glass. For the base I am thinking of gluing a 4 mm acrylic on top of the bottom glass, a little narrower than the base just for safety, in case something gets dropped on it. Do you think it's a good idea?

if your tank is 80cm tall 10mm glass will not be able to with stand the pressure. I would not go under 15mm for a tank that tall. Common rule is the taller the tank the thicker the glass has to be. Hope this helps

These guys are clueless newbies. Touching the prepped glass with their oily fingers where the silicone will make contact.? NO! Not to mention, the silicone has already “skinned” by the time they put the glass together. Huge mistake! Did I mention the silicone they’re using isn’t rated for a 700/G aquarium. Only SCS 1200 or Momentive RTV-108 or 103 should be used for a tank build this size. They have the proper tensile, tear, shear & peel strength numbers. This tank may last a few years, but they always fail in the end. I foresee a seam failure in the early life of this tank.

U can remove tthem after silicon dries and fill the gap . And before using a finger to remove and flatten the silicon u should wet that finger , i.e. water or touch of tongue :D

Please don't tell fairytales with your volume. Wikipedia says... 1 US-Gallon is 3,785 Liter. Your tank is 290 cm Long x 120cm Width x 70 cm Height. The result is 2436 Liters or 641,05 US Gallons. Not 700 Gallons and not 3500 Liters. No serious aquarist is adding the sump volume to the tank volume.

Maths don't lie, 290x120x70=2436000. Divide by 1000 for liters and guess what 2436L.

I think you'll find these guys are not in USA, they are somewhere in the north east of England, probably within spitting distance of the river Tyne (no doubt if I'm wrong they will shout at me). A proper gallon, that's imperial gallon as used in UK and most other parts of the world is the equivalent of 1.2 US or Mickey Mouse gallons as used in USA. I'm sure when these guys talk of a gallon they are talking imperial. 2436 litres is equivalent to 516 proper imperial gallons or 619 Mickey Mouse gallons. The whole world uses the metric system apart from Liberia, Myanmar and USA.

If I ever get the cash I’m building a fish room pretty much the same as that. What’s going in the middle tank?

Cool to watch. Over on this side of the pond, I have never seen anyone using black silicone for this job. What is the thinking with that? It isn't just because it is cheaper, right? The tank still looks amazing The different pieces for bottom were truly a brilliant idea.

hi the reason for using the black silicone is because it does not show the algae and any stains from any medications and always looks new compared to clear which is usually blue after a few years, cheers for watching!!

I am planning a similar build, I appreciate the post of this video and the insight offered. I am wanting to build a 96"x60"x28"tall aquarium. This video has helped me tremendously. Did you do any additional bracing or was just the silicone sufficient to handle that volume of water? Very curious to learn the science on this any info helps! Thank you in advance!
