Building a Mini Ramp Halfpipe [Start to Finish]

Спорт

Building a mini ramp halfpipe with materials from @OCRamps . Dimensions are 3.5’ tall x 12’ wide x 24’ long. I used Gator Skins for the finish on the ramp and OC Ramps Skate Paint on the rest of the exposed wood. I doubled the deck on one side to add standing room, storage underneath and stairs.
Having a mini ramp has been on my bucket list for many years so I’m stoked to finally make it happen!

Your kids are definitely going to grow up knowing how to be active and have fun. Glad I stuck around after the workshop was completed, this is a fun build. I know it is in total contrast to my last comment but I would welcome a video explaining your board shaping and planning methods. I may not surf but I love all forms of engineering.

At first I thought its pretty neat to have a skating ramp in your own yard, then I remember you're in California so it made total sense to have ramp in your own home. Your kids can learn from the easy ramps and you can keep an eye on them. So when they grow up they can brave the other skating parks around the city. Also, massive bragging rights when your kids go to school, they can say "hey I have a ramp at home you guys wanna come over to practice skateboards?". Very nice! Edit: Yes, I said practice skateboards

Ben doesn't just build or makes stuff, he makes them with that tidy and elegant look, all clean and with that visual appealing esthetic that I really appreciate. Pretty sick ramp! One consideration (or maybe this is addressed somewhere) ~ how does humidity leave from under the ramp or is it sort of trapped there? Wonder if adding a small vent on either side towards the top of the ramp would help? (I am thinking stinky / moldy pads, helmets, and warped board prevention)

Not a bad way to spend $4,000-$5,000. Especially with the whole family being involved. When my son gets a little older, this will be a fun project. Planning on a smaller indoor garage build. Roughly around $2,000. Eventually can build another larger half next to it.

Excellent work. But why not treat the whole ramp? Especially before placing the skating surface. Me and my skating buddies back in the very early 90's build one just like this (no stairs) but we treated / painted it powder blue like the Bones Brigade replica. It was great times. Skating was booming. Shaped decks rule! I'm 48 and still push now and then. ✌

This is a kit , pre drilled holes . Templates are all cut out . 2x4’s cut to size . Coping looks like galvanized fence posts , which will dent and hard to slide. Grippy AF! He better hope those tiny blocks keep it from rocking !?! Oc ramps are way overpriced for what you get !! I bet this kit is close to 5 k and you have to put it together? I’d definitely recommend putting a ramp on a solid block system or level concrete pad as well . Surprised this dude didn’t make his own ramp ? Cut out his own templates . He seems crafty enough

Great Work!, thanks for posting the process. Where I live we have a very rainy weather (south of Chile) ....how do you protect the surface of this ramp against water? Other than using treated lumber for the structural members, I don't know how to protect the plywood and the top sheet from getting soaked and rotten in the short term. Any advice? just don't build it? i would go with concrete but getting the forms for the pipe sections is gonna be hard....and expensive
