Your building is a pleasure to watch. I love it. I wish to have your skill.

I love the bamboo design of the door, it looks more like home. I also love the compost toilet that there a room for your feet, good for tiny spaces.

We have just purchased a 310 4x4 and will be building our camper out. I just wanted to say how great your videos are, they match the thought, detail and quality of your build. I'm sure this will fit perfectly for you. We are going to be building a toilet room too, but I think we will have it as a wet room, to allow a basic shower inside. It's much easier to shower outside, but sometimes it can be difficult to do that and we spend a lot of time in winter snow. Please keep the videos coming and I enjoy your sense of humour too.

Thanks for watching my videos! And have fun building your van! The great thing about building your own van is that you can tailor it exactly to your needs and dreams. It's not easy to fit a shower in a small T1, so I would be curious to see your solution when it's finished :)

Danke :) Das Klo hat sich auf unserem ersten Trip auch schon super bewährt. Ich möchte keinen Van mehr ohne haben...

So glad I found your channel as we are installing a compost toilet in our 1977 Boler which is a 17ft fiberglass camper. We recently ordered the Kildwick Classic separator and siphon as we will direct the liquids to the onboard black tank. Vielen dank for your very informative video.

The toilet is essential but I wouldn't build a whole room for it in such a small space. Yes, it doubles as a wet room but still, too much space and makes the van a bit claustrophobic. It would still do its job if it was built 70cm or 90cm high, (same height as either the fridge compartment or the kitchen and also double as counter space) perhaps with a pop-up top with a shower curtain that would make it full height when in use without blocking the whole area. However, I really admire your high level of craftmanship in your builds. PS Grandma is adorable!

Thanks! :) Yes, would be possible to build a lower compartment. I can understand your arguments, but I wanted to have the full room, so we can use it any time (also at night) without disturbing the partner with an unpleasant sight or smell. I might use your version when travelling in the van alone :)

Looks good. Mine wont have its own room because its just me and the dog. Mine will be housed under a section of the lounge. It will be a compost toilet with a computer fan inside box venting to outside. I will use a spray of eucalypt and tea tree to keep it clean and smelling nice. (smells just like the aussie bush). My lounge will be at rear door of van so accessing the contents of the toilet will be easy.

Moin ,ich fahre das gleiche Modell, 310er L2H2, allerdings mit Allrad. Leider bin ich nicht so ein geschickter "Holzwurm" wie der Autor. Unsere raumaufteilung ist deutlich Spartanischer aber auch ,wie ich meine, Zweckmäßiger. Der ganze "Aufwand" für allein die Toilette , auch als "fahrendes Luxus Klo" zu sehen, erscheint mir doch völlig übertrieben. Aber jeder wie er mag. Jedenfalls ,Hut ab für die handwerkliche Ausführung.

Danke! Für uns stand die Toilette halt ganz oben auf der Wunschliste, aber so hat jeder seine Prioritäten. Das ist ja das schöne beim selbst ausbauen, dass man es genau so machen kann, wie man es selbst will und braucht. Viel Spass mit deinem 310er :)

I have the same van 1994 310 diesel, in great condition with much more mileage. It has been converted to a camper van. Your work is very meticulous, well planned, don't know what your profession is but you are doing fantastic work. One thing that puzzles me is the size of the bed. Isn't 160cm too short? Isn't 120cm too narrow for two persons? I had to go lengthwise (english layout). The only other solution was adding flares.

Thanks! Yes, 160cm would be too short and 120cm too narrow ;) This is just the fixed section of the bed which we will use to lounge at daytime and we can always leave the bedding here. At nighttime we add another section, placed on top of the lower kitchen cabinets. This creates a bed of 190cm long and 160cm wide at night. I explain that in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kaGjlsdvl9DFZJc.html But I will make a full video about the finished bed, how it looks like at daytime and at nighttime and how to convert it :)

Hallo Mike, sehr schönes Video, auch deine anderen Videos sind klasse gemacht, vor allem die hohe Ausführungsqualität gefällt mir sehr gut. Aktuell baue ich auch einen VAN aus und hatte mir auch schon gedacht, dass es besser wäre das Flüssige der Trenntoilette in den Abwassertank zu leiten. Das habe das aber bisher noch nirgends gesehen, und hatte auch Bedenken ob das zulässig ist. Hast Du dazu evtl. noch eine Info? Viele Grüße Marcus

Hallo Marcus, nachdem ich bislang noch nirgends gelesen habe, dass es nicht zulässig ist, gehe ich aktuell mal davon aus, dass es ok ist, die korrekte Entsorgung auf einem Campingplatz mal vorausgesetzt. Wie sich das Set-Up in der Praxis bewährt, muss sich aber noch zeigen... VG, Mike

Danke! :) Das Thema Strom habe ich bislang geschoben, aber ich muss das jetzt leider als nächstes angehen. Ich dachte an 180 Wp Solar aufs Dach und 150 Ah LiFePO4 Batterie... plus Ladebooster und Landstromanschluß.

Gut ist Euer Ausbau geworden. Und ihr habt nun seither schon einige Erfahrungen machen können. Die Trenntoilette hat ja einen permanenten Lüfter. Wenn du einen zweiten Lüfter (Küche, Bad etc.) anschaltest, könnte dieser in Konkurrenz mit dem Toilettenlüfter kommen und den schlechten Geruch der Toilette herausziehen? Wie ist das bei euch, hattet ihr dieses Problem? Musstest ihr Vorkehrungen treffen um dies zu vermeiden?

Danke! Da hast du ein Problem sehr genau erkannt. Also grundsätzlich funktioniert die Trenntoilette mit dem unteren Lüfter fantastisch und absolut geruchlos. Den Lüfter im Dach hätten wir uns eigentlich sparen können, weil er nicht nötig bzw. kontroproduktiv ist, wie von dir vermutet. Man muss auch "während des Geschäfts" nicht den Kloraum nach oben lüften, weil anders als zuhause auf dem normalen Klo gar kein Geruch aus der Kloschüssel hoch kommt, sondern auch schon während man noch drauf sitzt der untere Lüfter schön alles absaugt. Also meine Empfehlung wäre heute, einfach nur den unteren Lüfter zu verbauen. Der Küchenlüfter ist aber keine Konkurrenz, wenn die Klotüre geschlossen ist.

Hey, saubere Arbeit. Habt ihr inzwischen Erfahrungen sammeln können wie es mit der Geruchsbelästigung durch den gemeinsamen Tank ist? also auch außerhalb des Wagens :)

Wir hatten eigentlich nie ein Geruchsproblem mit dem Tank und würden es heute wieder so bauen. Aber er ist leider arg klein, auch weil man ihn weder ganz voll noch ganz leer bekommt, also immer nur so 70% effektiv nutzen kann. Wenn du den Platz hast, würde ich einen mindestens doppelt so großen Tank einbauen.

@@CubeofCars spannend. man ließt ja auch gegenteilige Berichte darüber. Aber super wenn es funktioniert. Mit der Größe ist ja immer so eine Sache beim Vanbau. hier könnte man aber sicher auch noch etwas mehr raus holen wenn ein- und auslass anders dimensioniert und positioniert werden :)

Hi! Such a 2in1 solution would need more space than we wanted to sacrifice in this small van. I am also afraid about moisture from a shower if you have a leak or just the additional moisture that you would always create when you take a shower. We plan to make an outdoor shower which is ok for us, because we will travel in warm climates or - if it's too cold - would take a shower at a campground. A cassette toilet means handling with a canister and chemical stuff which you can only empty at a campground. Emptying is quite an ugly and bad smalling job and it's necessary to do quite often. With a compost toilet we can empty the plastic bag (which comes into the bucket) absolutely everywhere in any household bin or public trash can. The liquid waste doesn't contain chemicals, so it can also be disposed easier. Especially when you travel in areas without campgrounds, a compost toilet is probably the only option anyway. But I will present my experiences here on KZread as soon as we start travelling and we will see how well it works then ;) Cheers, Mike

Hallo, vielleicht wäre eine Aufhängung für den kleinen "anti stink lid" notwendig, oder willst Du ihn solange in der Hand halten? Aus Erfahrung kann ich sagen, dass eine Zumischung von Zitonensaft in die "Spülwasser"Flasche, nicht nur gut richt, sondern auch Urinstein beseitigt. Es muss nicht immer Hasenstreu sein, auch Zedern/Zwirbelholzspäne riechen sehr gut. Viele Grüsse, Andreas aus Süd-Frankreich

Hi Andreas, diese "Aufhängung" haben wir tatsächlich bereits nachgerüstet in Form eines kleinen Korbs an der Wand. Sonst ist das Ding irgendwo zwischen die Füßen etwas unpraktisch. Das mit dem Zitronensaft werden wir nächste Saison auf jeden Fall mal testen! Auf die Einstreu verzichten wir inzwischen. Nachdem wir gerne ausgiebig Klopapier verwenden, hat sich die Einstreu als überflüssig erwiesen. Es stinkt trotzdem nichts, da der Bodenventilator super Arbeit leistet. Und in die Einstreubox ist eine Packung feuchte Tücher eingezogen ;) Viele Grüße, Mike

Hallo Mike, danke, dass Du noch auf Kommentare antwortest, obwohl das Video jetzt doch schon 1 Jahr her ist. Ich fühle mich für mein Camper Project sehr inspiriert durch Deine/Eure Videos, bin aber zögerlich bei der Auswahl des Basisfahrzeugs. Ich schwanke zwischen dem T1 und dem T2 Vario (hoch + lang + Höherlegung + Einzelbereifung). Beide würde ich mit Diff Sperre hinten nehmen. Warum habt ihr euch für einen T1 entschieden? Ich muss dazu sagen, dass ich seit 50 Jahren an Autos schraube, Camper ausgebaut habe, und 35 Länder bereist, oder in ihnen gearbeitet habe, davon 10 Jahre in Afrika. Jetzt mit 63 und als Ingenieur-Rentner, muss ich wieder "on the road". Island, Mittel/Südamerica und südliches Africa sind da auf der Agenda. Wie verhält sich euer T1 im Gelände, bei Flussdurchfahrten, Sand etc.? Ich bin mal den Dempster Highway rauf nach Inuvik gefahren, im Regen, nur Schotter und Schlamm, aber der VW Bus kam durch mit guter Bereifung! :) Danke für Deine Zeit und viele Grüsse, Andreas@@CubeofCars

Hi Andreas, ein T1 Bremer bietet zwar weniger Platz, aber wir brachten auch auf dieser Grundfläche alles unter, was wir brauchen. Wir sind überzeugt, daß uns die kompaktere Form bei unseren Reisen in der Zukunft mehr von Vorteil ist als der geringere Innenraum von Nachteil. Man kann halt auf jedem PKW-Parkplatz in der City und bei jedem Supermarkt stehen und kommt auch durch kleine Dorfstraßen gut durch. Zudem bleiben wir mit einem Bremer gesichert unter 3,5t, was beim Führerschein oder bei der Maut von Vorteil ist. Weniger Gewicht verspricht vielleicht auch etwas bessere Fahrleistungen und weniger Verbrauch. Im einfachen Gelände sind wir bisher immer gut durchgekommen, aber mangels 4x4 haben wir es bisher auch nie übertrieben mit dem, was wir ihm zugemutet haben...

Ich denke, dein Spezialdeckel braucht eine Arretierung, sonst wird sich der früher oder später während der Fahrt in den Eimer rütteln...

Hi Alexander, das Loch ist kleiner als der Deckel bzw. ist etwas schräg und wird kleiner, daher sitzt der Deckel sehr solide.
