    I'm watching these in case you've got something I didn't think of, but I've done it for years because I love my ART Studio 2000 rackmount gizmo, and a certain old Behringer compressor. And of course the 16 track USB interface is a rackmount. Nice to see you bringing this hardware / software combo gear thing to light! I also prefer to record on a VF-16 Fostex hard deck, then feed to Cubase and Ableton for all those WONDERFUL VSTs and synths.

    Great video and very informative. Just to add for people looking at the summing option at the end, and unless I’m mistaken, you need to then route the stereo mix back into you daw via your interface if you want to record your mix or just hear what is being output from your console / summing mixer (unless you have speakers plugged directly into your console / summing mixer).

    Very good video. Wanted to add "the other way around" trick. You can add a plugin from your DAW INTO a hardware mixer. I use it for instance when I want to have a nice effects plugin on my analog Mackie 8-bus mixers aux sends. I go from analog mixers aux send 1 to the plugin in my DAW and the output of my plugin back to aux return of my analog mixer. That way, I can also automate effects and add whatever effect type you like without having to buy the hardware version of it. ALSO, that way, I can have ANY plugin clone of hardware I will never be able to buy as hardware, but use the plug-in instead. Of-course, also works on the analog mixers inserts of each channel, the 8-bus channels or the master out. The options become endless... Have fun

  • @sweetwater

    @sweetwater

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey, Paolo! Generally, any type of outboard processing gear will have a balanced input and output. In which case you’ll want to always use a TRS (balanced) cable for these purposes. That can also be an XLR plug on some units. They’re both balanced cables. I hope this helps! Nick Pasquino, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3230, nick_pasquino@sweetwater.com

    Would you typically have a separate interface for recording and one for routing analog gear and switch between the two in your daw?

  • @sweetwater

    @sweetwater

    3 ай бұрын

    Hello - great question. No, it is typical to have one audio interface in most studios. On MacOS you can technically create an aggregate device from multiple audio interfaces, but the easiest solution is just to purchase an audio interface with enough inputs and outputs to cover both recording and routing your analog gear. Usually a patch bay helps with this, as well. Thanks! Jason Filloramo, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1281, Jason_Filloramo@sweetwater.com

    I've been experimenting with this setup for my band: 500 series preamps (Burl and Cranborne)>line out to line in on my Audient ASP800>ADAT out from ASP800 to my interface. You can use outboard gear for tracking as well as processing. It's especially nice if you have some beautiful 500 series preamps.

    @@davemccall9594 This video gave me more ways to think about how to use outboard. I tend to think of running mics straight into pres or effects then to interface. Instead of using them as return tracks and how to set everything up in the DAW. I'm fairly new to studio recording. And it's so interesting to me. All the options available. It's so fun and I'm totally consumed with learning. Thx for the reply

    I have a question!!!! Say you EQ the kick like you did on the video and then you want to EQ the snare with the same SSL EQ. Wouldn't it change how the kick was equed? Do you need to print the eq on the kick?

  • @sweetwater

    @sweetwater

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Joaquin, great question! That all just really depends on your recording work flow. If you wanted to record both kick and snare at the same time with the EQ on them, you would need two of the SSL EQs to do that. Otherwise you could print each of the tracks through the EQ separately after recording the initial dry take. Thanks!
