Even as a single person I started this process in 2020. I was diagnosed and treated for stage 3 ovarian cancer. So my family would do my shopping (and I got stuff delivered) for me to keep me out of the stores. I have kept up the process of going through my stock pile using old stuff and restocking. I was able to buy a small chest freezer so I am doing that with meat and etc.

Exactly. Kids should be taught to eat when hungry and stop when full as should adults. If a kid is hungry they should eat no matter if it’s the “wrong” time.

❤️❤️❤️ This is how ingrew up in the 60s with parents and grandparents who lived thru the Depression. My husband and I have continued since our marriage in early 80s... We've been laughed at and ridiculed thru the years, but when something happens, (illness, job loss world pandemics), we are prepared and it doesn't throw us off course. Thank you for continuing to share a way of life that has kept Americans stable for generations!

THANK YOU for having both fresh canned goods and STORE BROUGHT goods! For being honest about 'Best Buy' dates vs. Canning good storage timelines! Thank you for having stuff in your 'Store brought' pantry that many of us have in ours as well! Thank you for not thumbing your nose at people who can't afford a whole lot of ORGANIC store brought goods (didn't see ANY in your pantry!). Thank for reminding people they need to STORE THE THINGS THEY CANNOT GROW or RAISE themselves (shampoo, toilet paper, detergent, etc...) And I'm glad you can SEPARATE all those things in your pantry... GOD IS GOOD! May you continue to be BLESSED!

As a Mennonite and my husband who is Amish and have four kids we go to the grocery store ever six months. My husband and son goes hunting and fishing and my uncle and aunt will give us two whole beef cows and two whole pigs and two whole lambs and we have half of our land that we use for gardening and we have 30 chickens for eggs and 10 ducks for eggs and 6 turkeys for eggs and we are thinking about getting some gooses for eggs. We made homemade almond milk and almond flour and almond butter and oat milk and oat flour the only time that I go to the grocery store to buy laundry detergent and dishes soap and bath stuffed and flour and sugar and baking soda and vinegar and baking powder and flour. I'm going to start to make our I Laundry detergent and dishes soap. We have three cats and two dogs and we make our pet food for our pets. We don't food our pets dry or wet food from the grocery store. Pets can eat the same food that we can eat.

I 3 sons as a disabled single mother and 75 qts of tomato juice, soup, spaghetti sauce. 50 whole tomatoes 25 pizza sauce 75 green beans, corn And all the deer meat we could get. I cooked cubed meat and let it cool pulled it packed it in the jar and canned it. Used it all kinds of ways but when I would be sick the sons made pulled deer bbq sandwiches. Or i would put it in the crock pot and let cook for bbq sandwiches when they got home from school that and mac and cheese and they have a meal.

Don’t know if you’ve ever watched Little Mountain Ranch. Not sure if her large family is as large as yours but she cans what she grows with the intention of using what she has canned before the next growing season. When summer comes, her shelves are pretty empty and she starts the process again. Jessica at Three Rivers Homestead uses what she cans during the same year. They both say the reason for canning their own food is to know they are eating the best food available without additives, etc. Both channels worth watching. I love to watch people can even though I don’t do it myself anymore.

FYI a TIP for you. When I stick my canned items, I have a sharpy with me and write the expiration year on it. Easy to see quickly. So if expires July 2025. I simply put 25 on it. Been doing this about a year after reorganizing and finding some old old cans that got slipped in wrong areas. Has made a world of difference, and your kiddos could do it too.

I love to listen to you, but I feel bad that you feel so much like you have to explain your journey. It makes me think you get a lot of negative comments like “must be nice” and stuff like that. Just know that those of us who have been here and know you, are GLAD, and so thankful for you. You have worked so hard and God has blessed you and your family abundantly. No shame! Anyone who gives you grief just simply doesn’t understand. Don’t let it bother you! I know your kind heart doesn’t want to brag. I don’t see it as bragging, I see it as wildly inspiring 😊

I've always followed the make 1 make 1 for the freezer as there's only the 2 of us. I've never been as grateful for a stocked pantry (not that mine is big). My husband took Covid at the beginning of the week, so I had to isolate with him, then I developed it by the Friday. Thank god for my freezer meals and extra food. I don't have a large freezer or a large pantry but its got me through till the end of next week at least. I have you to thank Jamerill for pointing me in this direction. xxx

Freeze dried egg powder are great to have on storage shelf. Reconstitute eggs - 2 tablespoons of egg powder and two tablespoons of water to make one medium egg. When using to bake with add dry egg powder to dry ingredients and add the amount water needed to equal egg powder to wet ingredients.

I have a bedroom with the metal shelving units set up. My kids/grandkids call it Nana’s store😊. The thing I’m not stock enough on, would need an extra place for are the personal items/medicines/cleaning products. We have the few extra in the baths of personal items but my store was build with grown girls/2 grandkids in mind, as well that don’t live here. None, NONE, of my family, have put up, stocked anything past a week😒. So I feel the pressure to do more, just in case.

Early 2020 before things happens or were just starting a talked to a colleague who was a student about food we keep in the house. I estimated about two months as we had just been to Metro (similar to Costco in the us) she estimated two days… I was shocked! Even as a student I always had a nstocked freezer (mostly leftovers) and things like pasta and pesto at home, that’s the way I was brought up. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2020 happened and we did not have to go to the store for 4 weeks. I was proud of myself and Ebene expanded my stock pile.

I have been canning for years and during he 2023 pantry challenge I have been doing I found beans that I have canned in 2014! The only thing I think would be a good idea is a clipboard to write down things to get. I love having a good supply on hand. Great job!!!

We are only a family of 3 (myself, husband & mother-in-law) , but I wish I could store more food. I would love to help out my daughter. She's 23. Her & her boyfriend are doing their best. As a Momma, I want to be able to say "What do you need?" Plus, if I need to get away, I can hide ~ an anxiety room per say. 🙂

One of my favorite movies is "Blast From The Past". They had the store in the basement along with a huge fish tank. 'The mother' (Sissy Spacek) would shop the isles. Way to go on the organization. You can really see what you have with those open shelves.
