Join me on the start of this new adventure.
I've needed a basecamp for a long time now, I finally found this awesome spot that I can camp at, practice bushcraft, and have fun.
I snowshoe through the woods to find a suitable location for the fort.
First task is to dig through the deep snow until I get close to the ground. Than I need to remove all the branches and trees in the way.
I make a bushcraft bed, and cook up some lunch, all while contemplating my favorite way to build the fort.
I string up a tarp for protection from a heavy snowfall, but ultimately decide I do not want to leave the tarp there permanently.
Next time at the fort I will be winter camping.

Just home from filming Episode 2 of A FORT IN THE WOODS......big changes to the fort, and my first overnighter at the fort. I am very excited about this series, I feel extremely energized about going out there, improving the fort and filming it. Thank you all for allowing me the opportunity to do this :)

Just want to say thank you Joe, you inspired me to get my daughters into camping. They are 8 and 5 years old and I am sure their little sister who is 2 will enjoy it as well when she gets older. My wife isn't really into camping so the girls and I go out on the weekends and have a daddy daughter trip. It has been amazing learning from you and applying some of the things you do down here in Texas.

I wrote an article about shelter for Survival Quarterly Magazine and the main point was that kids building forts in the woods was a perfect example of intuitive survival skills that we forget as adults. Good job man.

YEAH BUDDY! Joe over here fueling my camping/bush craft addiction! Thank the lord! I am sooo happy to see you back at it and planning to do an entire series. Hopefully there are lots of episodes and I hope you upload them often. I really hope people depreciate how much you go through just to make a video. You drive so many miles and hours away from your home and family just to be able to be in a suitable forest for our and your enjoyment. Also breaking the fourth wall a bit here SPOILERS. You put the camera down and then walk past it just for a shot, only having to walk all the way back to pick up the camera. Now personally I find this silly and a waste of time but thats just me. Now to mention the THOUSANDS of dollars you have spent to bring us better quality videos in more extreme conditions or far away trips. You are amazing and I love watching your videos. You inspire so many to just get out and enjoy the outdoors. I for one am starting my own Outdoors content this summer as I am making it my goal to get out and go camping, fishing and hunting as much as I can. Due to my health issues it will be a challenge and probably very painful but to me the enjoyment will be worth it. Keep on making the great videos and dont be afraid to try new things! God Bless!

Joe's skills as a videographer are outstanding, so you would be well served to take a page from his book and if you do decide to make videos, offer some interesting content. Use different camera angles and note that the long shots are part of this. If you don't take the time, your videos will be boring.

I'm really, really glad that i was born 1994 and learned all this as a child. Being out in the woods, make a shelter, make a fire just with a string and sticks and stuff. Dude this generation ( atleast from the german point of view ) would be totally lost. 100% Oh i loved it :D we always played a funny game. A spotter was at a higher position and we had to crawl as closest as we could without him spotting us (we all had camouflage clothing of course). I quite "forgot" this over the time. Thx for bringing these memories back

Help me make Joe aware of this! Please, please, please! Joe, watch your lifting technique... I don't want to sound like a "know-better", but you might ruin your back over time using your back that much when lifting. Saw it when you lifted rocks on your canoo solo-trip and now lifting that cut-down tree. All the best ❄ 🇧🇻

I'm no physical therapist by any stretch of the imagination but if we continue to isolate the muscles in the back due to using legs primarily in lifting situations, will that not cause a weakness in the core muscles and create a greater likelihood of injury? I focus on using my back a great amount in my activities. I've been doing it for many years and have never had an issue. Just one example but it's always worked for me.

  • @travisburks1

You're right, your back should be used for lifting; just not only the back. If you engage the posterior chain you will be stronger and safer. This includes your lower back, glutes, and hamstrings. Use them all together, in-sync.

So our daughter is 5 months now, funny enough, we decided to name her Winter. Our first daughter had issues starting before she was even born and we also had some tests done to check Winter for hip dysplasia. I know that helpless feeling, but both of my girls are healthy and growing. Another great video but more importantly that is great news about your daughter! My son and I prayed for you guys every night before he went to sleep as he also loves your channel at 13yrs old. We often try duplicating some of your builds and camp ideas. We are very limited though living in southern New Jersey! We have it on our list for later this fall or beginning of winter to take a long week trip up to Canada and hopefully run into you or Sean! God bless again and keep the videos coming.

That's why I like your videos, keeping the part showing you falling in the snow while pulling the cedar. A typical thing for anyone to do. It makes you real! No Samsquatch tracks this time? Maybe you should have asked the Samsquatch from the last video to help you dig. So happy Autumn won't need surgery. I know you're happy with that diagnosis. God is amazing. Snow looks amazing. Wish we got snow this year but I live in the Southern U.S. and we don't see it much. Awesome video.

I have never used hooded garments in the woods, but I can tell you that at sea I never used them unless I had to, Hoods get in your way, you can’t see properly in your peripheral areas or above,I would think that a hood in the woods would be asking for a twig in the eye. I know that those little camping saws fold up nicely ,but surely you could get better use out of a straight forward two and a half foot non folding bow saw ?
