Building a Duck Pond

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

We needed a more permanent pond solution for our Indian Runner ducks. A plastic tub wasn't cutting it and we didn't want a silly kid pool in our back yard. This is what we came up with!

I love when Dad's get involved and introduce all sorts of stuff like a drain system and ramp, they can't help themselves but upgrade things. I loved seing the ducks getting involved through it too.

Thank you for your good idea. It is very simple make. I like it. I have a young duck 6 wks old. He's growing so fast! This pond is very suitable for him. Also, his dirty water I can use for my garden as well. This great!

We did some thing similar, but on a larger scale. We dug a (roughly) 10x5 ft pond and lined it with concrete. It has a pump that pumps the water out into our 30x10 ft garden when we drain it and put fresh water in it. Great job!

Great idea!! Reminded me a bit of aquaponics, no water is wasted.

Thanks for this video. I've been trying to figure out a way of doing this without having to dig in or empty the water with buckets!

Oh, I think it looks terrific! :) I would recommend some side rails on the ramp and the landing up top, to shield from walking over the edge easily. Sometimes on mine I would put corn on the landing to entice them up. I would even make a 'corn trail' right up the ramp, lol! :)

wow, nicely done... inspirational and the style of your video keeps people watching! It really is perfect. LUCKY DUCKS! I'm so impressed. I wondered if the ducks chew on or can pull or tangle in the drain chain? And also, how did you get the great shots of them underwater (I'm guessing a waterproof camera like go pro?) THANKS for a great video!

Thanks for the compliments! No problem with the ducks pulling on or tangling the chain. A while later, we put in a ball valve for the drain because the kitchen plug slowly leaked. We filmed the whole thing with a GoPro and iPhone.

you could put soil around pond to elevate it,and plant grass seed around it,kinda small,if bigger,I would say add muscles to help clean water

Could you add just a few muscles for that size? Very interesting.

Well, that makes sense. I was afraid that water that ducks used was going to waste. I bet you grow some good corn!

Too small. We have a good size pond for fun which has a pump to keep water clean as possible and it gets cleaned out monthly. Also, the have 3 apple shape sandpits pools which they love and get fresh water each day. We have 2 Drakes and 3 females. They are very happy. I hope since you made this video, you have given them more swimming pools to stimulate them. That is not enough on its own. Sorry if I sound harsh, but I'm not, just thinking of the Ducks.

That's a bad duck to drake ratio. Ducks will be torn up in breeding season or drakes will get into fights

I agree with male to female ratio. Your response. "That is terrible, why would you do something awful like that. We have a much better ratio than you do." Just thinking of the ducks
