Building a Drawer for my Workbench out of Scrap Wood

Ойын-сауық

For my tiny basement I needed a drawer under my workbench. So I can store all the things that are quite necessary but always in my way, when I build something on my workbench.
I grabbed some different pieces of scrap wood and started building this drawer.
The joints I made with really quick and dirty dovetails.

So simply for beginners not like others putting rails all kinds of show off, music lovely

@fscarp i agree with you. Although he is playing both sides with his festool drill. This is what a YT woodworking video should be. No corvette, no outtakes just plain woodworking. Im subbed!!

Thank you 🙏 Yes in the meantime I got a few more professional tools 😊. this Festool drill cost me less than the double of my old drill but lasts now more than three times longer. So it was definitely worth the money 💰 Cheers

I'm really confused. You go to all the trouble of doing dove tail joints for the sides - and then you go and screw a piece of board which doesn't fit to the bottom. Why didn't you put a small rebate into the sides and have a floating bottom, or at the very least a rebated bottom?

Yes you are right. This would look much better. But the approach was not to build the most beautiful drawer for my tiny dark basement. It was about practicing dovetails and using only the pieces of scrapwood I have. One more tiny benefit is: I have a few millimetres more space inside the drawer because I just screwed the board at the bottom 😁 If I need to build a drawer for some living room furniture I would do it exactly as you described it 👍 Cheers

I have a similar workbench top and I like your design but I don't see how you stop the drawer from falling out when you you pull it all the way out and it looks like you put some kind of plastic spacers in between the guides and top -what is that for?

Hello and thank you! The drawer doesn’t stop. I can completely take it out. That was easier and more comfortable for me. So I can take it with me to another workbench for example. I needed the plastic spacers because my guides were not thick enough. Somehow I did measure something different 😊😂 Cheers

Yes, a lot of woodworking skills, but just for adding a drawer - it could have been done more efficiently. The dovetail joints are unnecessary and one can use metal drawer rails to save time and sweat.

@@00schralf Good deal, thanks brother. we’ve got a store like that here in the states called Harbor Freight. They sell knock-off or generic tools that basically people buy to test out or hold you over until upgrading to Bosch or DeWalt. Excellent store though, Give or take a few items that don’t stand up under extreme circumstances.
