Building a Bourbon Moth Outfeed Table Pt. 1 of 2

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

So again, not exactly "stolen" but I did buy a set of plans for this outfeed table from Bourbon Moth Woodworking and this is my video of how I built the table he designed. I deviate from his plans and even his building methods slightly, and I'll explain how in this video.

If I hadn't already clicked the thumbs up when you slid across the table, I definitely would have when I saw those miters. I wish I could thumbs up twice.

That’s awesome! Thanks so much. I can see why Jason does that some times. It’s pretty fun. Haha. And those Jess Em guides, in conjunction with a properly set up fence to blade on the saw on the saw, really help get those crispy mitres consistent down the length of the cut. I love those stock guides!thanks again for watching and the double thumbs up!!! 😊

You got a like and subscribe from me just for being the first wood working channel I've seen that says to table and mark up your pieces! Such a simple but often forgotten step that can save so much time and hassle!

Thanks so much! And yes, for me, I simply have to do that to ensure I am keeping everything together and as organized as possible. As you will see in the part 2, I didnt do that on my drawer box pieces. So even though I did set them up on the table grouped by each drawer, I failed to label them and it bit me in the end. Which, in my opinion, makes labeling and marking them up even that much more important. Thanks for the like and the subscribe! Greatly appreciated.

Just a suggestion; when I’m doing glue-ups, I keep a cheap shop towel (harbor freight special) in my apron upper pocket that hangs out just a bit (so it doesn’t get in the way). Then you have a handily available rag to wipe glue on while doing glue-ups. You can also use Scott shop towels (heavy duty paper towels) if you prefer.

Thanks for watching and thanks for the suggestion. I should utilize the Alton more for that because it feels like I’m always running to get a shop towel during glue-ups. Good idea. 😊

Awesome video. Enjoyed light music in background. Narration and oration perfect. I find the posts weird because the wood core might eventually open the miters a little bit. It’s 2 inches so it’s only going to expand in the tree outside ring demo soon maybe a tenth of an inch or less. Over time sort of thing but maybe the glue holds it too.. makes me want to do it just to see. Probably look just a tiny 1/16 gap on one miter edge after ten years.

  • @oilcitywoodworks

Thanks for the encouraging feedback on the video and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Honestly, I did think about wood expansion on the internal pine within the legs and I do think it could definitely open up the gap in the miters at some point in the future, I just have to think it should be minimal, or ~1/16" as you said. And for a shop table, it was something that I was okay with, but for sure if it was a client build (which I dont have at this point) I would have to think about the long term effectiveness of that method. But great point and observation!

Good job on the build and on the video. My one complaint is the background music. There's no need for that soft, continuous music. It just makes us old people think that someone left music on somewhere in the house, but doesn't really add anything to the vid.

@@oilcitywoodworks I’m talking HD stuff with voids. 🫤 It’s over $80 a sheet. Maple is $5/bf. On the other hand, walnut is over $20/bf. Makes me cringe when I see Jason and others use walnut for shop projects. 🤣😖

Oh wow. Yea, here in southeast Texas at Wes Vice, that beautiful birch is $52 a sheet, hard white maple is around $2.30 per board foot and walnut is like $6-$8 per board foot. So, the prices in this area have definitely come back down and for that I am very grateful! But yea, using walnut for shop projects is still a tough one. But they do turn out so nice. Maybe one day. :)
