The most useful videos are the ones that show mistakes and the solutions to correct them. It is way cheaper and faster for me to learn from your mistakes than to learn from my own mistakes! I once had a young co-worker ask me how I know so much; I told him "Every time you screw up, you learn something...and I've screwed a lot of things up!"

His dad is a bit too condescending though. Seems more arrogant than helpful when talking sometimes. I know old comment, but it's exactly how my dad is. He'll say sarcastic stuff like "you know better" even in situations I do. Just happened the other night working on my jeep with a part I have already replaced before and he hadn't. :/

And this is partly why I love Jeff and his channel. HE'S REAL!!!! That is HUGE for me! Not to knock too much on the other shows, This Old house, etc. But damn I have NEVER seen those guys get down and dirty and give you the real deal when it comes to projects, they make it seem like everything can be done in an afternoon, which is a huge misconception. Jeff never does that!! I love how he gives you the truth and let's you know what problems you can come into. Perfect example like his measuring mistake. We are all human. Love your videos Jeff I watch you all the time. Would love to run into you sometime and just shake your hand as you have truly helped me out on a lot of projects. Cheers to you and your family. Stay safe!

Ryan, I mostly agree you. However, I think this should be a requirement not something that's "OFFERED" as an elective. I also think personal finance and basic investing should be taught. What should be left as elective are the foreign languages. Mind you I am not against learning foreign languages at all. Please excuse my ignorance if I am wrong, I shouldn't assume so let me clarify and say I am making reference to those who live in the United States as that is where I have been born and live. In regards to learning a foreign language, it should not be made mandatory. The idea of public school is great however the ways are less than desired for I believe it harms not helps. 😮

Jeff I have been watching quietly for months if not a couple years.. Thank you for all you do. I'm sure you give Matty a hard time but you guys are lucky to be able to put hard work together and create your own brand and build your wealth. I used to fix houses with my dad in France and did renovation on condos back in Australia before moving to Canada (working for Bell) and now in the state of GA. I have been missing the times where I could fix or build stuff by myself but I'm far from my tools and peers! Hopefully that *already renovated by flippers* house I recently bought will allow me to do work on my own instead of paying contractors for every tasks... Thank you again keep the videos coming

If you can't lift the wall in one piece then frame it in 8' sections then tack them together tightly with blocks on the top and bottom plate breaks. Then put the bottom plate on the wall line that should be snapped on the concrete where the inside of the wall goes that way you know if the wall is straight. Now that it's straight you can square it like it was one wall. Measure from outside corner of the bottom plate diagonally too the same point on the top plate at the other end. Now you can sheet it on the ground and it will be plumb when you stand it up. Pull the blocks after it's sheeted and stand each section. Then connect all of them with one top plate. That's the easy way. For 8' walls you want to get 92 5/8" studs so you won't have to cut them and the sheets will land on the center of the top and bottom plates so you can nail the edges without putting blocks in every stud bay for it. Don't do anything this guy does or you're going to have problems the whole way and you won't pass inspection

Just a heads up, whenever you have plywood sticking out/leftover that you need to cut out, a router is a very simple solution. No need to measure or draw anything out. Specially for those windows, just make a little hole for the router bit to go in and route it out from the outside. Super easy and opening cimes out perfect following the 2x4s.

Good job guys. These are all the same issues a DIY home owner will encounter. We all have rough days at the office. Glad you didn’t edit them all out. Appreciate the humility and character it takes to mess up and keep going on camera. 👍👍 Next time you plan to build a shed give me a call.

Heads up , roller doors have weight in the in them to creat e tension (esp. when they are cheap and thin metal) try sticking a piece of scrap bar 3-6 pounds in one of the recesses, 2mm x 25mm, iron is good. Start with a bigger piece and you can trim down to weight till you find a happy medium. P.s. if the recess is shallow you may have to use some adhesive

If you're building too code you needed to balloon frame the tall wall instead of adding a pony wall on top because that creates a hinge point on a load bearing wall. You also need headers above the windows. You have 2 rafters bearing on a single 2×6 over each window. So half of the rafters don't have proper bearing and especially not when you have snow loads to worry about. Everything in this video is a good example of improper framing that's not too code.

I don't think you're missing parts. Looks like there is a spring in the center that needs to be tensioned. Probably doesn't need much... My guess.... set the height of the door when it's open, spin the shaft to get tension the spring, tighten u-bolts. There should be some hardware that attaches to the door to prevent it from completely pulling out of the tracks. I've never installed one, but that is my guess.

You are not supposed to cut the plastic holding the roll until the door until it is installed. By unrolling the whole thing on the floor he lost all the tension.

Me again. Pretty sure your roller door should have a rectangular container at the top which encloses the rolled up door and prevents it from creating a huge coil above your head. Basically you roll the door up into a tightly wound self-contained coil, inside a box. Jeff, you need to make a nice timber box for the coiled up door!😉

  • @chichidouglas5078

You can stand that entire wall on top of the bolts and just kick into place over the holes and it drops down. You don't notch the bottom plate for bolts because it's not necessary and makes the plate weak at every notch so it's not allowed by code and those washers aren't correct. You need bigger square hot dipped galvanized washers for treated wood.

The roller door needed to be rolled up tighter befor you lifted it onto the brackets ,then clamp the spindle down tight, then rotate the roller one and a half turns ,then feed it into the chanel, pull door down to base ,then bend tads at top to stop it coming out of chanel when you open it .best wishes from England

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY You are not missing hardware. But you definitely screwed yourself there by unrolling that. Ive installed a roll up door on my shed. Here what needs to happen. Before you cut the cable that's holding it together you need to mount the side tracks and the entire rolled up assembly in its space then take a bar and pre tension the springs inside or else it will just unravel itself and won't have any tension to roll back up. The hardware that comes with them (the ones from Lowes Canada) is crap. I bought some extra hardware before I installed it and ended up using the extra stuff instead of the provided ones. What I suggest you do is take the door back off. Lay it on the ground. Roll it as tight as you can. Put a ratchet strap around it to hold it, then mount it above the track. Now you can Tension it. Tighten everything down. Then you can untie it and it'll work.
