and use my code "JUICEBOX" at checkout for $50 off your order! Thanks for your support! To build your own saltwater backyard stock tank pool you will need the following:
BTW we spent a little over $500 pre-tax on our setup, but prices change all the time so that might not end up applying to the links below when you click on them. Expect to pay around that much, however.
Stock Tank: www.tractorsup... (but consider buying other sizes that suit your needs.
Above Ground Pool Pump: amzn.to/2YgqNhx (this shouldn't cost more than $50)
Saltwater Chlorinator: amzn.to/3bEijo6 (shoot as of May 27th, 2020 this one is sold out in most places and selling for $240 at Walmart which is way too much. I paid $150 for it. I would buy this chlorine float: amzn.to/2X47BCv and 1 inch chlorine tablets: amzn.to/3go9S30 and use that for the season and if you wan't to upgrade to saltwater next year you're only out a little bit of money and you might decide the chlorine tablets work just fine for you anyway!)
Pool Inlet and Outlet: www.ebay.com/i... and www.ebay.com/i... (this is the exact ones that we bought and installed, but if ebay doesn't have it in stock in the future you'll have to find a 1.25" inlet and outlet and ours was made by Summer Waves). At the moment there is no great Amazon option. If I find one I'll add it here. Intex does make a kit with plunger valves that you can use to stop the water from flowing to the pump if you need to do some maintenance, but I haven't tested it out so I can't recommend it. I will help a friend install one soon though so I'll update you on that.
Pool Salt: Go to Lowes or Home Depot or a pool supply store and buy a $10 bag. Do not order it online! Very expensive because of shipping!
Butyl Tape: amzn.to/2zpwYVS
Silicone if you need it: amzn.to/2zvOLLd
And the all important hole saw: amzn.to/2VzNFXq
This is an easy project that anybody can do! But if you need help and you have a specific question and YT has disabled comments (because they seem to do that to us) you can email me at gilliganphantom@gmail.com
Here is my vlogging setup for the fellow camera nerds and I edit on FCPX:
Camera: amzn.to/368KLvs
Main Lens: amzn.to/2rAZTTm
Wide Angle Lens: amzn.to/2slDU3r
Mic: amzn.to/2GAdcHw
Tripod: amzn.to/34ZMvpC

I didn’t drill holes. I propped the cartridge pump and salt chlorinator up on plastic chairs, dropped the intake and output hoses directly into the pool and weighted the hoses down with ankle weights. Works fine

This is fantastic! Have you tried this set up with a water heater - as a hot tub?

How well has this held up for you? We are trying to decide between salt water or chlorine.

We're also thinking about putting in a salt water stock tank pool. How has this held up 2 years on!?

Well our pool has spent plenty of it's life in storage for the winter, and the bottom seam of the tank is leaking a bit. Tiny bit of corrosion in the tank. Still overall functions as intended and painting the interior of the pool would likely mitigate that problem. I still think the whole system is a go, but the saltwater mechanism has become very expensive and hard to find over the years. If I were to do it now I might just use the $20 chlorine float. But the saltwater is nice.
