The ingenuity of these lads is amazing. First they built a fish pond, and now this water tank. Simply beautiful, and very elegant use of bamboo and mud. We can all learn from them.

What would make this more effective would be to fill it with gravel and sand and made a small entry for a hollowed out bamboo stick with a clay cap so when it rained the water would capture in the contraption and could easily be filtered. All that would be needed is to simply take the cap off the bamboo stick to get some water.

To little coal, for getting drinking water you need to have a filtering system made of three layers: A layer of aggregate (bigger pebbles, or mush) - this will filter the big impurities in the water 2. a layer of sand - this will filter the small particles in the water (i.eg.: mud) ,and lastly you would need a layer of charcoal - this will filter most chemicals and very small particles (not sure if microscopic though). Theoretically the water obtained in such a filter should be boiled before drinking as some parasites, bacteria or viruses can pass through. If the water is coming from a secure place that has no such risks then you can drink it without boiling.
