    Bought a new 2019 Corvette Grand Sport, with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION, and it’s a great car! Huge power, fantastic handling, and with the magnetic ride control, the car goes from track stiff to cruising smooth in an instant. My wife even asks when we can go for drives in the Corvette Grand Sport, and that rarely happens with my NSX. Buy one, if at all possible, life is short.

  • @speedlife301

    @speedlife301

    6 жыл бұрын

    Lol the stingray or grandsport is a 376 compared to a stroker engine 427. Anyone who knows anything knows that a boosted car needs more power to beat a n/a car with similar power. Roots chargers run out of power at redline or just before and n/a engine is lighter = adds weight over the front axle80-100 pounds not including the weight from chiller killers , meth setups etc that you will need to keep the iat temps down so more like 150lbs or more added to front of car =undesirable no heat soak, more reliable and consistent (can be hot lapped and do it over and over again and run laps hard with out having timing pulled or going in limp mode, plus they pull hard up top and have a very strong linear predicable powerband which is key for auto cross and road course racing and still fun on the street for bracket racing. Give me a 700 hp n/a engine over a 750 supercharged engine any day of the week. You can do drag, auto cross and road course and kick ass at all band if someone wants to race for money you can always throw a 100-200 shot of nitrous on to of the high compression n//a that the bottle can easily be removed when you track your car that will kill any boosted car.

    I own a 2017 Chevy SS Sedan with the stock LS3. I've been on the fence as to which upgrade to choose. If I were to follow the primrose path by others, I would have a new block cam-ed, ported with internals, coupled to an SC, and tuned as a daily. Conversely, I just can't shake my desire for an NA alternative. This video inspired me with the cleanliness of their shop and how they approached the build with surgical detail.

    I'm a die hard GM and N/A fan, and seeing 100hp/L out of a 427 is always cool. I know you guys stopped making Corvette race engines after GMPP brought everything in house in 2010. However, I hope that your work with Pratt & Miller still created a strong bond. I have several questions, the last of which is more of the blurred line between race and road engineering. 1) When it comes to the Gen V LT1, how long do you think it will take the aftermarket to come up with a true tall-deck block with direct injection that will support 100hp/L and 500ci? The LSR-TDRC2X block from Concept Performance has been hailed as the next big step for making reliable power for the LS platform - and it supports up to 505ci SAFELY. Obviously with the LSR block reliability is key, and it supports 505 ci (4.180"x4.600") safely before the wall thickness is no longer sustainable. But it's still an LS-based block, without direct injection. Also, the tall-deck version only weighs 120lbs, which is kind of crazy. A tall-deck production LT1 (LT7?) block that weighs 120 pounds would be sheer insanity. 2) Going back to the LS architecture, an engine builder (who shall remain unnamed) using what looked like a Dart block, old-school intake, made nearly 870 hp/740 lb-ft out of a 'conventional' 502ci (4.165"x4.600") build - and it was meant for a STREET DRIVEN car. They posted the dyno run on KZread only a few weeks ago, and it looks entirely legit. What kind of cam and compression ratio would support such a ridiculous amount of torque AND power, even with a huge stroke like this? 3) Everybody talks about drivetrain loss and the different ways to calculate it. You lost about 76hp from a 700hp build, so I'm gonna round it and call it 10% loss total. Most people land somewhere between 8 and 15 percent - but obviously it's different for every engine, transmission, and drivetrain package. Which transmission did you get that loss with, auto or manual? And if it was the manual, how much more or less power and torque would you see at the wheels with an auto (or vice versa)? 4) Lets say we take the aforementioned 502ci crazy engine, and we drop it into a car running a CF driveshaft and a 9" rear with 3.00 gears. What would be the difference in horsepower and torque at the wheel with a traditional manual (say a beefed up T56 Super Magnum) versus a 6-speed paddle-shifted sequential box, like something from Albins, Holinger, HGT Precision, or the like? And would it be practical (not necessarily comfortable, but practical) to run a sequential on the street assuming that its torque capacity exceeds 1,000lb-ft? I've heard that the HGT boxes are the quietest and have barely any gear whine - plus they're EXTREMELY light.

    @@fabbas01 I feel it. But I. Challenging us car guys to keep the manual alive. For all those folks who say it's faster.. We'll that's great and all but I enjoy driving and connecting with the vehicle. I respect if u don't mind an auto. But picture this. U have a dude in this C7 NA CORVETTE manual. Vs someone in a Tesla P1000s. And ur gonna do a dig race. Well who's the real winner. The guy who actually has to drive the car to win or the guy who simply presses Ludacris mode, the brake and Gas together to the floor, and lifts the brake pedal? Perfect example of where we're headed

    When building an engine like this, don’t you have to run it for like 200 miles with break in oil or so to create cylinder and piston wear patterns before all out dyno-ing?

    Immaculate, professional build. Did you guys stroke this 427 cu in motor prior to this build? I recall GS Vette's are 350 CI? Why go anywhere else - you guys do everything and do it right. Do you port superchargers that are not on a domestic vehicle? Did this Vette receive Haltec engine management? Last one - did you upgrade the clutch assembly? Great video - thanks!

    The car was completely stock before the build. We achieved 427ci by using our sleeved LT1 block @ 4.125" bore and used a 4.000" stroke crank. Currently our only supercharger porting available is LT4 and LS9. We are working on LSA. The engine management system on this car is stock. The clutch is an RPS BC2.

    How does power to weight for this car compare to a H/C/Exhaust C6 Z06 with 650HP? How much was this build?

    There is no way that car is fun to daily drive. With 700 N/A, I imagine it's gotta have a pretty nasty cam that would make city driving no so fun. I could be wrong though.

    Dan The Man That is also what I heard. Apparently they tried to go big naturally aspirated but nothing with the power they wanted passed emissions

    jalloor Too expensive, too time consuming, too difficult to reproduce effectively and efficiently, and 700 naturally aspirated hp won't pass emissions... Like it or not, but these cars are mass produced, it's the only way they'll make a profit from them... Why bother pushing for 700+ na hp when they can get those same numbers by installing a small and cheap blower rather than wasting all that time and money porting, re-sleeving, fine tuning etc, the power output will be the same, but it'll take significantly less time, money and effort using a blower than going na...

    ZarosianEos I heard that the auto-cylinder shutoff mechanism could not stand 7000+ RPM. Even with the 454 spining at a lower rpm than a 427.

    Funny you should mention it. We've seen less than desirable oil pressure in dry sump LT applications, so we came up with our own oil pump that we just released. store.katechengines.com/high-capacity-scavenge-high-capacity-pressure-lt-dry-sump-oil-pump-p812.aspx

    I have decided to take you up on your idea to see what is runs at the track that still will not explain the poor numbers on the dyno,thanks Bob
