i actually got a little emotional hearing you speak about how you could see yourselves investing time into donghun outside of this show. it's insane because a.c.e as five is honestly so talented in every category, and I love them. i remember watching their busking videos from when they used to be a busking crew on youtube before they ever even debuted. honestly, even if donghun doesn't make it in this show, it would be soooo amazing to see you guys do an a.c.e deepdive, they have so many amazing songs AND covers!!!

Here is some Donghun lore for you! He "won" i.e. made it into the group for a a survival show called Mixnine. Mixnine infamously never debuted the boys or girls (because there were like 2 competitions happening simultaneously) who won the show. YG said it was a problem with contracts with some of the other companies the idols were under, but I mean to just cancel the groups entirely.... Yeah so poor Donghun probably does have a bit of trauma from these survival shows.

Donghun's fans always say he sounds like he's singing after his fifth divorce. His emotional delivery is incredible, and I'm glad more people are finding him. I hope you do give them more of a listen. A.C.E are 5 all rounders, so talented and hard working. I think his talent and maturity really showed with how he accepted the dividing up the song. He knew that they could do better as a team, rather than anything personal for himself.

A.C.E has been my ult group since their debut era and no other group has come close to what they are to me in the almost 7 years they’ve been a group. Donghun’s such a big part of that but all five members of A.C.E are incredibly talented singers and dancers!

Actually it made sense that Donghun cried… he finished 7 or 8 in Superstar K and also finished as 8th place in Mixnine (debut group) but since it was a YG production, it crumbled. A.C.E., his group debuted in 2017 and a very criminally underrated….they have not even one ist place on any of those music shows. They are one of those groups who are more popular outside of S. korea. Their company Beat Interactive was solely made for A.C.E. It was such a small company that when they started, they didnt even have a mirror to monitor when they practice dancing. They ended up busking (performing on the streets) to get recognition and funds to debut.

Donghun and the rest of the a.c.e’s members will not disappoint! Everyone is an allrounder which you can rarely see on any other kpop group.

Jay gives me DK vocals. Feels effortless

49:25 even if you don't watch everything Donghun has ever done I beg you to watch the Love in The Ice cover they did on Mix Nine. Donghun and Inseong (v6) were in that performance and to this day it's still spoken of as one of the best vocal performances on a survival show. They're both very very very emotional singers and deliver it every damn time. I do agree that Seunghun's song choice wasn't the best for him and it's sad that he got such a low score, but it's great that he got to prove himself already. The second that I saw Don't Go, Don't Go was an option I immediately thought of Donghun and Jeup and I'm SO glad that they chose it. I'm upset that some of my favorites didn't get any screentime but it's a mnet show so I'm not surprised. I care about so many of them that I've been doing a rotational vote, I vote for Seunghun, Donghun and Inseong every day and the 4th spot changes according to what I'm feeling lol Never in my life I have received so much payoff being a nugu stan and a survival show enthusiast. I know every single idol there, their backstory, the ones that are friends with each other, who was on what show... I truly feel like a kpop historian. I ult A.C.E, I used to ult KNK and Inseong is my bias, I ult DAY6 and even though Junhyeok left before I stanned them I know how talented he is and I watched him on The Unit, Cix are one of my favorite groups and I've known Seunghun since he showed up on the Stray Kids predebut x YG trainees battle in 2017 (Woong from AB6IX was there too), watched him in YG Treasure Box (Seokhwa from WEi was there too and ofc our BELOVED Keita), I cried when his debut was announced... I could talk about the contestants all day. If any fandoms get beef during this I will be crying about it.

Hoping Donghun continues to come for your neck so we get A.C.E content on the channel lol. Their title tracks tend to run more heavy/ hard hitting but Take Me higher and Changer are very listenable and their bsides are great. Their covers are absolutely life changing! The leader acted in a BL called tinted with you prior to his military service (all but the maknae are back now- he's back mid feb). they are all arounders and genuinely wonderful men worth supporting. Comeback will be out soon! They filmed the MV (with fans as background dancers) already ^_^

I'd like to recommend A.C.E's genuine live stage which is called 'It's live'. Especially 'Undercover' and 'twice medley' on the show. As a korean choice(A.C.E's fandom name), thanks for all your great reactions for my bias Donghun!💙(Blue is the symbol color of DH)

I've been rooting for NEON. He's unique, has a bright personality and his songs are great. He has like a hundred subs on Spotify but he's a gemmmm. I want both gatekeep him and show him off like Simba 😭

BTOB Seo Eunkwang and Boo Seungkwan are friends almost ever since SVT's debut. During the early days, Seungkwan gatekeeps Eunkwang from the other SVT members because he wants Eunkwang to be his hyung only (jokingly ofc). SVT used to sing a lot of BTOB's song during their predebut and even their debut days! Also Eunkwang and DK are close too they were in the same musical - the King Arthur one.

The fact that there’s members from 3 groups I Stan. Wei, ab6ix, and ACE👀👀 for sure check out ace. All these groups are underrated and I hope the show brings them more popularity & success

I think Jay is an exceptional vocalist, though I was never his #1 fan during boys planet. HOWEVER, he is pulling absolutely 0 punches in this and he is easily my top 4

Genuinely so happy y’all are watching build up as well, the talent in the first ep alone is so exciting!!! The Mnet live stream was giving boys planet, 60%spam nd 40% commentary 46:24 so real!! How did I know this would be about Donghun?!?

I knew nothing about the show nor a single contestant on the show. I knew some of the judges, but once again, I didn’t even know the show even existed I simply clicked on their singing bit on yt since it said Don’t go Don’t go. Naul is a legendary singer, and as a big fan of Brown Eyes’ songs, I had to listen to this one Even before the killing part and climax of the song, my attention went to Donghun immediately as he started singing His emotions pierced straight through my heart. I didn’t watch the entire show, so I didn’t know any of his stories, I didn’t know who got the top tier, I didn’t know who he was, but I had to do a deep dive on who this man is after watching the performance. I’m thoroughly impressed with this group ACE and all of the 5 members I can’t help but declare that Donghun has a chokehold on me as a bias in the group, but they seem to be one heck of a talented group I binge watched all their cover songs (I have to say I personally like their cover songs better than the original most of the time) I’m hoping that Donghun makes it to the final in build up, as well as this opportunity being the steppingstone for ACE to be known to a wider audience (like myself who knew nothing of them) Oh, after watching don’t go don’t go, I had to watch all of the songs by the rest of the contestants on build up. After having watched the second episode, I still think don’t go don’t go team was the best in this first round

I actually love hearing you talk about this show because both of you clearly know so much about singing and theatre and are so passionate about it! I could listen to y'all talk about it for hours! :)

I’ve been an ARMY since 2015 and a CHOICE (A.C.E fandom) since 2017 and I can whole heartedly state just how insanely talented & humble A.C.E are as a group. This is a group that is probably one of the most fcking talented kpop groups in the entire industry but are very under appreciated due to coming from a small company. A.C.E is known for having some of the best vocalists, all members are main vocalists even the main rappers. This is a group worth checking out! And trust me if you think Donghun is a talented vocalist, the other members will just mind blow you! A.C.E have a lot of covers that have gone viral. My fav is their covers of Empty Space, Youngblood and Here I Am 😍🔥 Not sure if you know but A.C.E became viral for influencing & popularizing under water photoshoots in kpop. Their underwater photoshoot for their GOBLIN (Favorite Boys) era and Higher era caused a lot of ppl/ companies to keep their eyes out on them! They also influenced the usage of hot pants and crop tops since 2017 🔥 they sparked attention for challenging the gender norms with their wardrobe ✨ Byeongkwan of A.C.E was also a panel in Lauv’s Blue Boy Foundation where they spoke about the awareness of Mental Health and Music. We stan KINGS that care about social issues in society

I really hope you will dive more into Donghun.. He has such an amazing emotional and soulful voice 🥰 A.C.E has been through a lot, especially coming from a super small company so I hope you will give them a chance, you wont be disappointed.. Donghun loved singing from a young age he was even a vocal trainer for other students in the singing academy! ..Later he participated in the program [K-Pop SuperStar] then joined (CJ Entertainment) and after that he followed CJ Manager who became the ceo of A.C.E company ( Beat ) He entered the survival show[ MixNine ] at the beginning of his debut days and he reached the final and debuted with the group that formed from that show but unfortunately it was canceled due to problems between the CEOs.. this boy is not only a good singer he also can write and produce music & although he didn’t learn to dance in his early days, but he has been providing how good he is as a dancer since his training days, not saying this because I am a fan but I really didn’t feel any lacking In his dancing or facial expressions in any performance.. he also started participating in making choreographies with his members.. although he is not A.C.E leader he has a great leadership qualities that you can see it clearly in Mixnine and this show. I just wish him the best, He worked so hard in all these years and he deserves a lot, not only him but all of A.C.E members!! They are all amazing singers, their harmony while singing is no joke, and on top of that, they are all good dancers. they started out as battlers and they choreograph most of the choreography for their songs. They also write and produce their own music, being actors,show/radio mcs, models.. on top of all that they have the best teamwork like how you can’t fell in loce with these guys!

jay and geonu’s friendship was not too much of a surprise to me considering jay has known bain (+ doyum) for years at this point (they were on the survival show under 19 together back in 2018/19) so them getting close so fast made a lot of sense to me lol especially because bain and geonu also know english also geonu and tag are close so their groups are just kind of intertwined haha

Every chance I get I tell them to listen to A.C.E because all 5 of the members can singggg. JEUP rent was due ok

Ahh! I'm so glad you guys are watching this show, too, so I can find other people to fangirl with. I loved your reactions to BP! I Can See Your Voice was my gateway to Korean shows so I already had a soft spot for Donghun and Jeup before this started. Voting for only four is so limiting since there are so many contestants that I know from various shows that I want to support. Brown Eyes was my first favorite Kpop group so I was really excited to have three people (Hyukjin was one of the girlies I rooted for in The Unit) I already knew were amazing singers do it justice. ETA: I think everyone already covered the recommendations regarding Donghun's vocals so I'm going to go a different direction and recommend that you look up the photos from A.C.E's Siren: Dawn album. I think you guys are really going to love how beautifully they did the siren/merman theme. Donghun is the one with purple/silver hair in those.

Love your recaps and inputs!!! I just started watching Build Up and I'm fully invested. The BP babies but also Inseong from KNK, ACE Donghun, and AB6IX Jeon Woong have a special place in my heart 🥹 Got to discover Sunyool's power vocal since I only knew of his lighter, softer, pretty voice. So excited to hear more of your commentary!!!

Since you like Donghun, I highly recommend you watch his vocal performance of Love in the Ice from the survival show MixNine. Jeong Inseong is also in this performance and he's another contestant in Build Up.

I feel like such an oldie in kpop, but one of you had one of your original picks as Hyukjin so I have to mention him. I know him originally from the group 100% which was under Top Media who also started Teen Top. They are no longer a group but I would recommend some of their first MVs Want U Back and Bad Boy, they even tried a vampire type concept in 심장이 뛴다 (Beat). The music is very much of the times tho as they debuted in 2012,but they have great vocals.

I highly recomend listening to Donghuns cover of drivers license, its from a.c.es online concert but you can find it on youtube. Imo some of his best emotion wise

13:45 when SEUNGHUN only got 7 votes, I felt so sad for him. It wasn’t a good song choice to show off his vocals. Glad he got to redeem himself as top tier. It was interesting to me that the musical theater singers or non idol singers ranked high on the votes in the blind reveal but all three of the top tier so far have been idols. I think they each were able to connect and deliver the emotions best when performing and that’s what the judges and audience wants. So it made me really think about vocal talent/skills vs emotions/delivery. Really excited for next episode and I’m just rooting for so many. I am so disappointed in the lack of ballads in American music today. Miss the days of powerful vocal divas. Are you guys watching Asia Super Young with Ollie on it? I thought Boys Planet was sort of unfiltered and unhinged at times but ASY really lets these boys do anything. 😂

LOVE this content, loving this show! so many old faves are popping up! bestie suhwan who was master lee seokhoon (mr. sir with the glasses) absolute favorite on PDX101 and had a fun bl-influenced rivalry edit with another main vocal candidate on the show! mother wumuti who has had such a storied past all the way from SWIN-S iconic shortlived cpop group! and my fav sunyoul (the other up10tion vocalist) aside from being a bona fide babygirl, he had one of the most iconic gender-bending appearances on korea's masked singer and covers musical theatre songs all the time so i love to follow his career :) i think all of these guys performed in ep 2 so excited to hear you talk about them!!!

I've been a WEi fan since pre debut and I saw them live last year and when we got out of the concert venue, this girl behind me asked her friend, ok, who was the small homosexual one? 🤭 That's Seokhwa. Known babygirl of WEi, former Produce X 101 and YG Treasure Box contestant, friends with other known babygirls such as AB6IX Daehwi, ATEEZ Wooyoung, The Boyz Kevin and etc etc. He raises a pomeranian named Cookie and there was a whole theory that he was, in fact, raising it with another man before he moved into the WEi dorms, but take that with a grain of salt lol. He slays girl group choreo, is the biggest stan of A Pink, is good at doing make-up, at speaking English and at knowing memes and has the BEST side-eye in the biz. Anyway, I hope he sticks around long enough for yall to fall in love with him, because he is my everything lol. AB6IX Woong also has a lot of babygirl energy and he's kinda soulmates with Golden Child Jangjun and CIX's BX. Speaking of CIX, Seunghun is maybe the most babygirl member of CIX (he also likes getting shirtless). And you should absolutely get into A.C.E, because they are not only amazingly talented vocal and dance and performance kings, they've also always had very unique concepts and have played with gender roles and genderless fashion since debut. Also Taehwan's group Vanner always goes viral for doing very gay things lmfao. Up10tion's Sunyoul is known for going on the Masked Singer in drag and tricking everyone into thinking he was a girl. So overall! This is a highly queer season of TV and I am looking forward to you guys discovering all of these amazing artists!!
