Build an Auto Mining Drone Without Scripts - Part 1 (Space Engineers)

Ойындар

This how I designed a Grid AI Prototype Auto-Miner that can go *underground*. This mining drone tutorial includes my fails and wins, troubleshooting and solutions. There is a lot of detail about Space Engineers Automatons Grid AI so it is split into two parts.
This video deals with:
Form factor - How do I build a mining drone that fits down a hole and can get back out?
Cargo - How much cargo does a mining drone need to be useful?
Thrust - Do I use atmospheric thrust or hydrogen? How many thrusters and where?
Power - How many batteries do I need and how do I auto-recharge when needed?
AI - How to use the event controller with the ai move and ai recorder to create complex rules.
Drills - How do I stop my mining drone filling up on stone and ice?
I don't recommend following along with me as most of the time I'm trialing ideas and seeing what works, but by the end of this I hope we can all learn how to solve problems with difficult ship designs.
This session uses vanilla Space Engineers Automatons, with the Grid AI system - using the AI Move, AI Recorder (Task) and Event Controller blocks.
I am using AQD vanilla ore distribution mod to have deeper than normal ores to make sure this works for all situations, and Ore Detectors + to see where the ores are.
Recorded in survival with creative mode enabled for better survival mode compatibility.

Such a fun video. Learned more than a few things. Thanks.

Great idea! I'd add small wheel suspensions on the sides so it can roll up with the aid of the thrusters

ya, instead of tires as bumper-pads, turn them side-on and put them to use. great idea

if u want to add a system to detect when there is no more ore left in the vein, u can grab it off my miner from my yt/workshop, very practical tho, saw a video by ladyhawk that shows a similar system in practice

I'm fairly sure the connector can "drain all" too unless the push pull got dropped somewhere during one update or another.

I think that option is still there. A sorter on the receiving connector would be more reliable though and prevent any back-fill.

@@Psy-Prime Well I mean it's a straight pipe directly to your connector and the only thing that connects to it is your mining drone so.... drain all~~

Drills hold cargo, to save yourself the weight problems... leave the cargo containers out. You'll need more trips to be made, BUT they'll be quicker and easier trips!

Especially if ai is used to help auto dock and transfer.

ai? just use a sorter on the base-side to drain everything off the miner.@@thisguy2085

Watch part II, Psy came up with a brilliant way to use the drills, a sorter and a small container to let the drills fill on the way down until ore is reached, then dump the drill contents and store the ores.

why not just put a drill on a piston?

That takes a lot longer to drill to depths of hundreds of metres. You could use the drone to reach the exact depth of a deep ore very quickly and for ores that are outside of detector range you can find out if it’s worth building a piston rig. Good for no jetpack scenarios. Also less boring.
