Build an antenna for 6 Meters- - Lockdown activities Part 7

6 Meter Gamma match half wave Dipole, 50MHz to 52MHz Plus a T2LT for the same Band will the fun ever stop......
Based on the FM broadcast band reception aerial a home-brew 6 meter version you can transmit from plus a bonus quick build T2LT (Tuned Transmission Line Trap (CB folks)) 1/2wave end-feed dipole...

Very neat work on the dipole Mike and I like the way you say it's not the "perfect" result. Too often KZread videos give the impression that all is fine and dandy at the first attempt. I might well have a crack at one of these ...once I have a shack up and running!

Mike, your gamma match will likely show up as inductive if you use an antenna analyzer, which is preventing lower SWR. Most gammas are built with insulated concentric tubing isolating the coax center connection from the gamma tube, forming a variable capacitor with a value determined by the overlap of the tubes. (No DC connection from the coax center through to the antenna element.) Once you get the tap point on the element in the right spot, you can then shorten the inner gamma tube, reducing its capacitance, until it exactly equals and cancels the inductive value of the gamma match. (But some homebrewers build it that way and never get it matched under 2:1 anyway!) An alternate method might be a small variable cap insulated adjustment shaft, or insulated screwdriver, connected between the coax center and the gamma tube. But that will require additional weatherproofing if used outdoors. Thanks for your videos! 73 - AE4KR

The buzzing you show at the end of the video, separated by 50 to 120 KHz is likely from a switch mode power supply-- the usual suspects are wall-warts or LED light bulbs. I spend roughly 80% of my ham radio time hunting down and exterminating these "noises". I have one now that is coming from my refrigerator-- because there is a controller board in it that has a poorly designed SMPS to power the microprocessor control circuits. A never ending challenge! Great videos that are an encouragement to keep building stuff! 73 de Chris N0JCF

Wind your coax at the aerial feed point about 5 loops in a small circle .. try it with 4 loops or 6 .. it might just bring your SWR down.. or make an aluminium 1/4 stub and put it over the coax close to the aerial feedl..

Hi Mike! A great channel growing here 👍 I threw up an inverted-V for 6m just the other week by adding elements to my 20m (got a 40-10 EFHW too but still missing 80m). The 6m band is peculiar! I have some time this next week so likely to be found somewhere on the dial. Subscribed! De 2E0RYD (must get my M0 finished!) 🤘

6m is worth persevering with. Quite often its quiet, but it lights up like a Christmas tree when you have Es. Look out for the RSGB contests on 6m for more local contacts.

Always experimenting? That's good, nothing like it, you never know when you will find something that works well. 6mtrs is not a band I am familiar with. I was going to have a go at building an antenna for 11mtrs, but I am told I am not allowed a mast up, funny, they made me put u a mast for Sky TV? Where's the difference?

just watched your video and had to point out your gamma match is wrong you have a jumper from the outer of your gamma tube and not the inner rod so you have a t match you are noi using the Capacitance at all thats why your swr is not 1:1 simpley move your jumper to the inner rod and make you outer tube smaller move the rod in or out to get min swr dont forget there must be an insulator inbetween the rod and tube best is teflon for high power 1kw plus

@@mike-M0MSN I added another comment earlier but this looks very much like EMI from a switch mode power supply-- a "wall-wart" , LED light bulb or other mains to DC converter that switches at the rate that is the distance between the carriers that you see-- roughly in the range 50 KHz to 120 KHz most often. You have to go around and unplug stuff until you find the offender
