Public service announcement: at 4:18 I accidentally cut out the part where I added a Subdivision Surface modifier. Exit edit mode, go to the wrench tab on the lower right of your screen. Click on the add modifier's dropdown button and select subdivision surface. Then set your viewport levels and render levels both to 2. Sorry for all the pain I've caused! ha!

Thanks for a great tutorial. I've spend the last year following tutorials on YT and skillshare, but the way you show the logic in Blender is very appealing to me. It's not at all frustrating to follow or understand, and I'm slowly understanding the modelling and texture/node-part. I often compare the functions to the functions in the "world" I'm coming from (I'm from REAPER DAW, so a colorramp-node would be like a lp/hp-filter, the hierarki-functions is like track-drawers etc). Thanks! And thanks for not including bg music. I've spend a couple hours today doing this (the texture part was really fun!) listening the The Midnight. This combo really makes me relax and focus!

changing specular throws off realism also. It's basically IOR, you can even make a node tree to input IOR value there

For all of you who ran into a problem at 16:23. First, you have to extrude the square, then hit escape without moving it, scale it in, and pull it in. and repeat that step again and you should get a pretty good oval and circle shape. You may not need to scale it the second time.

At 2:20 the word "isometric" was misused (and that's super-duper easy to do, Chris knows his stuff and just flubbed the term, as anyone who makes videos has done at least once, but for those who are trying to learn correct terminology): • Orthographic: head-on (front, side, top, etc., at 0°, 90°, 180°, or 270° on every axis) • Isometric: 45°x/-45°y/45°z view, commonly used in video games to simulate perspective, and in technical rendering to show as much detail in one view as possible • Perspective: Literally every other angle Just clearing that up... do keep making excellent videos!

Great tut Bailey!--love your work with nodes especially. I do have a question though. Around 4:18, you select the four faces from the grid fill, then the video suddenly moves to where you have the object in object mode after the extrusion. At this point, the edges of the extruded geometry are rounded--nice and smooth. When I extrude the four faces, the edges are sharp and don't look as good as yours. How did you achieve this? Thanks in advance.

select the head - go into edit mode - select a face (or a number of neighbouring faces) - inset those faces (shortcut is the I key); he has a subdivision modifier on the head, so the inset area should appear rounded; you can scale the inset area to get the shape you want

Getting frustrated with this tutorial if this is for beginners you should explain the things you’re doing instead of pressing shortcuts so quickly it’s hard to follow along when I don’t know exactly what’s being pressed. You extruded the bottom of the sphere and skipped how you did it….you’re going so fast it’s like you’re talking yourself through the tutorial not someone just starting to learn.
