My favorite part is no gloves needed! I hate wearing gloves but people keep telling me to wear them so I think its great seeing someone else not afraid to get their hands dirty!

I used to think the same way until I painted aircraft parts with highly toxic paints. Some of those chemicals can absorb through the skin (ie brake cleaner) and long term exposure can cause cancer, when my son was born it changed how I look at those things. What if I have trace chemicals on my hands or boots taking them home and exposing him to them. Just because others take different precautions doesn't me we are afraid to get dirty, I used to used brake clean or stripper to clean my hands now I don't do anything with chemicals without gloves

Pretty sweet! The engine is nice to.
Great job! Like that you show the funny things like dropping the ring tool… recommendation, stand on the back of the engine stand when torquing mains, you’ll never chase it around again…

Lol I will, I stood on it and my weight wasn’t enough
quick tip, if you turn the engine on its side when torquing main bolts you don't have to hold the engine with the other hand so you'll be pushing down and not pulling. Can't wait to here the first startup!!

I think its always a good idea to put the camshaft in first. If there's an issue with the cam bearings not being installed correctly or the cam doesn't fit correctly it's easier to fix before assembling the rotating assembly. If you wait tell last to install the cam and there's a problem than you have to disassemble the shortblock in most cases the correct the problem. Good job👍

Very cool love the details in your videos! Great job 👍 the engine stand following you on the floor when torquing your bolts down 😬 I don't how many years I'd be holding it with my foot 👣 leaning my body into it !!! 🤯until I'm at a buddy's shop and he had recessed tie-down plugs in the floor welded d-rings on his engine stand and used small ratchet straps to hold it still 🤯

@britneyautomotive........ The floor Mount pucks I'm referring to you can find in body shop equipment , they are like a cup with a chain in it you drill a hole with a large masonry bit in your floor ,drop in hole then Titan with an impact, they have a smooth cover that goes over them

Camshaft before crankshaft isn't backwards it's smart! I've always tried to put the cam in first, without the crank in the way if you can put even one finger on the end of the cam it's so much easier and safer for the bearings to guide it through!

Fellow Bardstownian here. That must be exciting to be finally doing! I'm not new to the learning game but I am new to the building game. I'm well on my way this year though... I don't have the cash to buy a crate engine all at once. Would you suggest starting with a new block and buying parts as i can and building over time? Or pulling a junk yard engine and getting machine work and new enternals. Trying to balance what i could do soon vs. something more worth waiting for while focusing on suspension. Also, can i just walk up into BTR and talk to them about what i need? Lol
@britneyautomotive
Жыл бұрын
You can come talk to them or just call, I’d say that question is based off of preference! There’s a ton of fast junkyard engines. Crate engines are going to guarantee a fresh clean block. Sometimes you run into a deal you can’t pass up. Really just depends on what’s available at the time you buy and for what price! I have a crate engine so I skipped on replacing the bottom end but will do so next season. I’m also not used to going as fast as I will this year so I need seat time before I really send it anyways!
Keep up the good work. I wish my car buddies were as pretty as you. I get stuck with a couple guys that look like they should be living in the woods. Lol
