I was previously free-ranging my chickens, but as garden season rolls around, I want to keep those little savages out of my gardens. They do have a run on their coop, but everyday I'd get home they'd squawk so dang loud that I HAD to let them out. My solution? Build a bigger chicken run. We have officially reached urban farmer status.
Supplies:
🔨 50' roll of 6' tall welded wire fencing
🔨 8 t-posts (9 if you want a gate)
🔨 zip ties
Optional:
- a helper
- post pounder thing
- zip tie cutter
- leather gloves
- small bolt cutter
Method:
- I have 3 doors on my coop so I made sure to measure 📏 the doors and added some extra space for access.
- I started with the corners of the run and pounded those posts in first and then put the other 4 posts between the each corner post
- enlisted my husband to help unroll the fencing while I placed 3 zip-ties on each post
- voila. Chicken freedom
Per the usual, I should have googled how to do it, but I didn't. Just winged it. Worked out well. 😊
