This is incorrect information, 2005-2013 is between 2 generations with different engines. This vehicle displayed is a 2nd gen Lacrosse with the 2.4L engine.

Thanks for the info. Would have hated to get into my 2005 and realize this video isn't that helpful.

I have a 2008 buick lacrosse Super that constantly need fixing. I swear it always has something to mess up not long after fixing something else. Already had it to overheat enough times that I had to send the head off to be filed down as it slightly warped some. Haven't been a yr and again it overheated. This time the gauge never reached half but the resevior boiled out then the gauge jumped from a quarter from cold to the hottest temp. I'm hoping this video is accurate for my model and motor size as I now need to replace the thermostat and flush the coolant. May take it to someone to do the flush so avoid any chance if air being trapped in the lines which is probably the issue this time...well that and the thermostat. Thanks for the video. I never buy the books as it gives me a headache trying to read them. Feels like it's a blueprint that needs to be deciphered. 😅 that could just be that I'm too stupid and lazy.

Can you do this without draining the coolant? Can I just use a pair of hose pinch pliers?

Coolant will drain out. Forcing air into the system. Without replacing it with new coolant aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand burping the coolant...... you will have air in the system causing overheating. You can always replace a thermostat without it.... but it will take the same amount of steps..... as the drain plug is damn near easier to get to than thr damn thermostat.

Unfortunately on my car it looks like the drain plug on the radiator is hidden in the car's frame that holds the radiator. Someone before me probably replaced the radiator with a aftermarket or wrong size one causing the issue. Luckily the valvoline shop I got to said they change coolant with a machine that uses 2 pipes to remove all the coolant and immediately replace it with fresh new coolant. Cost around 100 but it'll be worth it if it prevents air and gets it done.

This video is for the 4 cylinder, you probably have the 6 cylinder. It’s in the same general spot, between the engine and the computer, it just looks different and has three 10mm bolts (I believe). The thermostat housing is the metal thing with all the hoses going to it (one to the rad, one to the coolant tank, and two to the heater core).

Do you have a V6 engine? The V6 thermostat replacement is different than this video. They should have specified that the video is ONLY for the 3.6 and NOT a V6. For the V6 you will need to use that tube to compress the spring a bit to get the two tabs out of the housing. Look up thermostat replacement for a 2011 V6 buick lacrosse. It is a pain of a job and one video said it took two hours. Short answer, this video is of no use for the part you have.
