Oxfam Uganda in partnership with other agencies like , consortium patterns, Catholic relief services and red cross have to today Wednesday commissioned a warehouse which is going to be used in storing non-food relief items for people from Elgon region who have been hit by disaster.
The warehouse has been put at the Mbale red cross branch and will take five districts like Mbale, Bududa, Namisindwa, Sironko and Butaleja.
While speaking during the opening of the warehouse Jimmy Ogwanga who represented Commissioner from primer minister's office says that this warehouse has totaled seven in the entire country.
He says that partners are helping government to put such warehouse at all diaster risk regions.
Ogwanga also says that government under ministry of disaster has stored their relief items like Jerry cans,gamboots, wheelbarrows, tapelines among other relief items which will be supplied immediately to people in case disaster hit in that particular area before government responding.
He adds that government has been delaying to respond to disaster victims because they take long time to get information saying since warehouses have been put at all disaster regions response will be quick.
Edward Mwebaze who represented Country director oxfam say that warehouse coasted 1.7 million Euros in construction.
He says that establishing awarhouse at Elgon region was a deliberated move due to continues diasters at districts like Bududa, Namisindwa among others.
Julie Namara the Namisindwa deputy resident district commissioner urged people in Bugisu region to own the warehouse saying it's going to help them during disaster time.
